Soul Jazz's latest compilation is a superb addition to this growing list. It showcases music made in the post-bleep and early breakbeat hardcore period, where basslines got bigger, drum breaks faster, and ragga influences started to come to the fore. The selections are on-point throughout from the dub-wise rave rush of Babylon Timewarp's "Durban Poison" and the bleep-and-breaks-meets-proto-jungle shuffle of DJ Dubplate's "Tings A Go On", to the rave-rap goodness of The Freaky's "Time & Age" and the heavily edited darkcore/early jungle insanity that is Krome & Time's terrific "Ganja Man". In a word: essential.

Review: It's raining breaks! A hailstorm of jungle and drum n' bass has hit our shelves, and first of the droplets to settle (that is, onto our turntables) is FFF's latest album. Breaking away from the bangerized, 'Part Of The Order' is a junglist's fever dream, occupying the liminal spaces between rollage, hard heat and liquidation in equal measure. On it, tribal drum grooves ('Planet's Rhythm') and lo-fi breaks ('Disco Undertaker') weave between bursts of heavenly synthwork and existential vocal samples. Even weirdo art-pop jungle rears its head ('J.W.'s Experiment'), proving this one of the weirder ends to De Roos' catalogue.

Madi Lane sets the tone with her heartfelt vocal on 'Death Dreams' while the snatches of singing on 'Broken' equally casts the record in a meditative space. The third installment in the Forschung & Entwicklung series comes on grey vinyl and does not mess about with five more cuts all served up as Antal or Rural versions from 2016. The first rides on rusty jungle breaks, the second, 'Conclusion', is an atmospheric piece with a minimal rhythm and warped synth daubs while 'Six Days' is a dark and heavy piece of ambient techno dystopia. After his European debut on Cosmo Vitelli's I'm A Cliche, followed by a successful EP on Berlin's imprint Love On The Rocks, the Indonesian artist keeps carrying the vessel of the Far East sound. The title track Black Magic is a fat disco-tribal inspired groove that builds fast, eventually climaxing with a cloud of acid synths and mystical vocals. Japanese duo Mascaras, Chida and Cos/Mes' 5ive, straighten up the groove giving a 4/4 beats restyling. The result is a Proto-Techno, Trance influenced soundscape, for foggy late-night dancefloors. Urban Sorcery is an Italo inspired maze of proto-acid synthesizers, sounding like an enchanted concrete-covered forest. 90's house inspired Redvox is an experiment of cosmic influences. Review: Six years on from his last album, Underground Superstardom, German drum and bass madman Mathis Mootz aka The Panacea is back with his sixth full-length set, Chiropteran. Any ideas that this renegade producer might have gone soft over the years are thoroughly dispelled right from the outset, as the sinister opener "Gjallarhorn" launches a horror-core assault on the listener, breaking into a tight drum break right at the end and launching into the furious "Creatch". As the album progresses, Panacea takes it on to new levels. "4/4 FrsTYL" is gabba brilliance, while the equally off the hook "Crypto" keeps a techno-gabba vibe to the intro before breaking off into some genius warped jungle lunacy. Incredibly well crafted with enough ravey power to last the whole summer, Chiropteran is a sick masterpiece that shouldn't be allowed to pass you by.

Review: Hospital drop the second Sick Music comp upon their incredibly loyal fanbase and the good news is that it's a real stormer with a really tasty range of songs from the mega successful D&B label. Some highlights include Muffler's "Pinball Fantasies", which rocks an interesting glitchcore/Planet Mu-style lead melody, an unusual sound for a Hospital banger. Another surprise is the slinky, tech-inspired vocal tune "Turn Up The Music" by Camo and Krooked, a tune that craftily keeps the listener on tenterhooks as it threatens to spill out into complete mayhem. Every bit as strong as the first time around, this is yet another chance to gorge on 22 unmixed D&B future classics from Hospital. Sick indeed.

Review: The third heavyweight 12" to be purloined from Dispatch's elephantine Transit 2 album, here we find Halogenix rejuvenating 2012's slinky roller "Raya" with a massive VIP. With added bass textures and serious attention paid to the drums, it's essentially a whole new tune. EBK's "Strength" is equally stunning; all jittery and breakneck, the frenetic rhythm is countered neatly with an innocent glock riff that's at once naive and naughty. Incredibly powerful stuff.

Review: In today's climate, the term EP is surely one of the most misused by record labels; we've lost count of the number of two track 12"s that arrive at Juno HQ labelled as EPs in error by thems that don't know. Dutch drum and bass troupe Noisia are fully aware that it means Extended Play as this Purpose EP demonstrates with a full grip of some eight tracks slapped across four 12"s! Housed in a gatefold sleeve featuring artwork from Nik and Khomatech, Purpose features collaborations with contemporaries Phace, Prolix and Evol Intent. Noisia Fans will probably already have soaked up the viciously ill opening track "Oh Oh" and the remainder of the EP doesn't relent one bit with "Running Blind" a particular highlight.

Review: MASSIVE album alert! Can Chapter II possibly be as remarkable, ground-breaking and time defining as 2008's Diary Of An Afro Warrior? Only time will truly tell, but it's certainly an accomplished long player. From the moment the 80s electro hinting "Yellow" cuts through, it's evident Benga's having a lot of fun, applying a commendably subversive take on the dubstep sound he helped establish. From the strobe-sonics of his Kano collaboration "Forefather" to the skippy, breakbeat-powered rave homage "Higher" via the cinematic, emotional one-way ticket to Lighters Up Town "Waiting", Chapter II's been a long time coming... And it's been well worth the wait.

Review: Runaway funksters Rudimental furnish the fans with their highly anticipated album. And having smashed number one with two of their only four singles, there's A LOT of anticipation. We're happy to announce they've stepped up to every lofty expectation... and then somr. It's evident from the off; the dusty Daptone soul of the opening track sets the tone perfectly. Further on we find them developing their live technique on the guitar twanging "Right Here" and getting their street sleaze on via "Hell Could Freeze." Other exciting developments include the Amp Fiddler/Erykah Badu nodding "Hide" and the Balearic bliss of "Alien Bashment". Runaway, yes. But definitely here to stay. "Home" is where the heart is...

Review: Given his status as one of drum and bass's true heavyweights; you'd expect this eighth Calibre full-length to be one of the most hotly anticipated jungle sets of the year. Certainly, it's a fine effort, packed with emotion-rich atmospherics, fizzing rhythms and intricate, occasional beautiful, musical touches. He seems to be at his best when concentrating on musicality, as the delightful "Close To Me', soulful "Wilderness" and summery "Do Not Turn On" prove. There are, of course, rawer moments (see the tech-tinged "Simple Things" and dubstep flex of "Start Again"), but these don't hit nearly as hard as his effortlessly soulful compositions.

Review: Having made a sterling name for himself and his Hidden Hawaii label since first emerging, Felix K finally makes his move to the long-player with this self-assured collection of engaging electronica that spans dry, melodically-bereft spaces, industrially-tinted beats, cavernous drones and dub techno robbed of its signature chord. It's an intense, at times oppressive listen, but with such masterful sound design and a refusal to over-egg any one idea, Felix has successfully created an album that demands attention. For all the avant-garde leanings in Flowers Of Destruction, it's actually not hard work to listen as one post-apocalyptic study glides into the next.
