Review: A live concert recording of the penultimate date on Kate Bush's first and only ever tour: The Tour of Life. As part of this run, Bush performed three nights on the trot at the Hammersmith Odeon in West London and the middle date was broadcast, thus immortalising one of the most innovative shows of that era or any era since. Hot off the heels of the release of her debut album The Kick Inside and the follow up Lionheart - both released in 1978 - the setlist draws heavily from said albums and she turned the songs from those albums into a visual spectacle. The full-blown theatrical appearance came at a time when Bush was the most photographed woman in Britain and had a megahit in the shape of her debut single 'Wuthering Heights' and soAit's a truly defining era that's on record. Kate Bush's mystique and a goddess-like aura may have been nurtured through her emphasis on visual art and theatre but delving into the music alone and drawing your own pictures to go with it, aided by her mesmerizing voice, is equally enthralling.

Review: Who can forget Maneskin's triumph for rock on the Eurovision stage as they brought the win for Italy in 2021? In Damiano David, the Italian band have a natural born frontman who is now having his Harry Styles moment and stepping out on his own and forging a distinctive solo career to rival the day job. Despite being labelled a glam rock outfit, Maneskin's pop element always shone brightly and so for his debut solo album David has tapped more heavily into that side of his. David's embraced co-writes and in terms of the production he has thrown the kitchen sink at it to get a massive sound. 'The First Time' has more hooks than a fisherman's tackle box and a sweeping epic Sprinsteen-esque feel. Another highlight 'Next Summer', lets David's vocals star, but the arrangement is unexpectedly massive. Despite its sparse beginning it turns into an orchestral showstopper indicative of the seemingly vast resources the label have had to craft this beauty.

Review: There's something timeless about the way this veteran UK singer carries himself and this 2010 album, now reissued on striking red vinyl, makes that all the more clear. It feels like a continuation of the Roxy Music legacy in spirit, mood and style, with that familiar air of suave detachment and immaculate detail, with a production styler that's lush and forward-thinking, bridging classic lounge-pop stylings with modern textures that still sound fresh over a decade later. The sleekness is no accident - every element is meticulously placed, from the glossy synths to the hushed guitars and orchestral flourishes. 'Shameless' is one of the more adventurous tracks, pulling in electronic flourishes courtesy of Roots Manuva. It's a bold move that actually works, blending suave vocals with a beat-driven framework that never feels forced. The real surprise, though, is the version of 'Song to the Siren' - a haunting, fragile take on the track made famous by Tim Buckley and This Mortal Coil alike, that shows just how much weight his voice can carry with minimal backing. Easily one of the most affecting covers in his catalogue. 'Tender Is The Night' rounds out the highlights with a melodic, romantic glow. There's an added layer of interest with Brian Eno - a Roxy member in its early days - contributing, creating a sense of full-circle collaboration. Review: Steely Dan's cynical 1976 opus passes go once again, rounding off Universal's reissue campaign of the band's revered 1972-1980 catalogue. Known for its slick jazz-rock fusion and caustic topicality, the album houses fan favourites like the acid-laced 'Kid Charlemagne' and the tightly wound funk of 'The Fez'. The sardonic 'Haitian Divorce' became an unexpected UK top 20 hit; it was the only time the group ever cracked that territory's singles chart. Review: Talisman were a Swedish metal band founded in 1989 by bassist Marcel Jacob, whose charismatic core formed the basis of a melodic, urgent sound. Beset by tragedies in the late noughts - Jacob's health issues and suicide, and the band's eventual split - their various LPs have garnered much credo over the years and especially posthumously to Jacob's death. Genesis and Five Out Of Five all are the fan favourites, but it's their debut self-titled record from 1989 which cut an early mustard, with the arresting lead single 'I'll Be Waiting' wrenching the attentions of hard rock fans worldwide away, god forbid, from lesser acts. What's more, this anniversary edition from original pressers Sunhill includes two previously unreleased instrumental tracks, further marking out the anniversary brilliance of a tragic act.

Review: Signed to blues rock master Joe Bonamassa's Journeyman Records, Joanne Shaw Taylor is one of the UK's foremost blues players and has delivered a transcendent tenth studio album. The Black Country singer and guitarist lets the natural twang of a Fender Telecaster ring brightly through the stomping blues classic 'What Are You Gonna Do Now?' and she matches her virtuoso playing with a commanding vocal take that puts her up there with the greats. 'Look What I've Become' sees her bare herAsoul to stunning effect as she lets rip with one of her best solos. Elsewhere, 'Summer Love' is a husky take on Americana with a more languid, feel-good vibe that reflects her ability to express almost any feeling through music. Clearly, Joanne Shaw Taylor has developed, since her 2009 debut, into a hugely accomplished member of the blues and Americana community, who doesn't just pay homage to her influences, but splices them into something new and her own.
