Review: The 4th Street Orchestra is one of several aliases used by Matumbi, which was actually one of Britain's first and most original reggae bands back in 1971 when they were founded initially. For the best showcase of their sound look no further than this landmark roots record Ah Who Seh? Go Deh! which came in 1976 and has been hard to find since. This is a first ever official reissue of it and finds Dennis 'Blackbeard' Bovell tapping into his vast knowledge of sound system culture and laying down heavy rhythms with plenty of Jah-worshipping, Zion-referencing lyrics and soulful yearnings. Review: Everybody Plays The Fool is the second album by The Chosen Few, a reggae group from Kingston, Jamaica, formed in 1969. They were big news in the 70s and 80s and still have fans all over the world. This record first came in 1975 on the legendary Trojan Records label and traverses some of their finest moments. There's gentle lovers rock, fine covers of greats like 'Second That Emotion' and deep cut reggae rhythms like 'Reggae Stuff'. The production is tight, riddims slick and the falsetto lead vocal never fails to get you where it hurts, particularly on the iconic 'My Thing.'

Review: This newly expanded reissue of classic Desmond Dekker compilation "Double Dekker" includes six rare bonus cuts next to the rest of the material that helped it make such an international impact. There isn't much cross over with other compilations, either, making it a must for fans of the late vocalist. Interestingly, this release was compiled after Dekker had left Trojan for the newly formed rival Creole, and it went on to become one of their biggest sellers, at the same time as putting his newer recordings into the shadows. So sink in and enjoy one of rocksteady's best.

Review: Desmond Dekker recorded some of his best known songs together with his backing group the Aces. Their single '007 (Shanty Town)' made him Jamaican music's first outernational superstar, reaching the 14th place in the UK charts. The Leslie Kong-produced Double Dekker was first issued in 1973 and consists of the best material Desmond recorded during his early years. In 1969 he scored a number-one hit with the legendary song Israelites. You'll hear how the Ska music from the mid-60s developed to the Rocksteady sound. This was 'Ska' or 'Blue Beat' - (or its new name for the slower tempo rocksteady) - and the lyrics come from the Calypso-Mento method of telling about current events in music. He was really at his prime from 1969 to 1971 and recorded classics such as 'It Mek' (1969) and 'You Can Get It If You Really Want' (1970), which you'll both find on this record. Even before Bob Marley and Jimmy Cliff Jamaica already had their own international superstar, Desmond Dekker was his name.

'Monkey Man' was covered by the last Amy Winehouse and 'Pressure Drop' is another fine and standout tune that still bangs. The quality of this band and penmanship of the songs still shines through.

It found them move away from their earlier ska days but not quite settle into the slower tempos the rest of the big players were exploring. As such it's a speedy listen with uptempo vocals that most frequently muse on love. There are plenty of standouts such as "Got To Feel," "Koo Koo" and "Pee Pee Cluck Cluck" that still sound fresh today, especially on a limited edition individually numbered orange vinyl.

Review: Considered something of a rocksteady classic, The Melodians' 1970 debut album "Rivers Of Babylon" has long been tricky to find on vinyl. Surprisingly, this Music on Vinyl reissue marks the first time it has appeared on wax outside of Jamaica and the first pressing of any sort for 50 years. It remains arguably their strongest work: a warm, soul-fired set of loved-up songs co-produced by legendary Chinese Jamaican ska specialist Leslie Kong and his long-time sound engineer Warwick Lyn. The plentiful highlights include upbeat number "Though I'm Through With You", the jaunty "Walking In The Rain", slow jam "It Took A Miracle" and fine opener "Rivers Of Babylon".
