Crystal Bullets vinyl

Apparently White Denim crafted 'Crystal Bullets' with Bernard Purdie's grooves in mind. It's not hard to hear what that means when listening to the first track on this 12" released via the band's own English Mallard label. There's a timeless, or perhaps more accurately retro half-prog rock feel to the song that has real funk at its core, and in real terms this is the least funky of the twin offerings here.

Flip it and find 'King Tears', a tune that's riff heavy and filled with the kind of guitar lick spirals that make you feel as though you're descending into chaotic and cacophonous madness, driving further and further into the centre of your mind and refusing to leave for the duration. A year on from World As A Waiting Room, already a contemporary classic, and it's clear the Texan outfit are still riding on a creative high.
