It's time for another ambitious soiree with the No Pain In Pop crowd, this time reaching for an artist with plentiful ties to the label already. Ukkonen has a grounding in the romantic nature of original Detroit techno, as is evident as "Luomus" takes hold like a golden-era Carl Craig production, all haunting strings and rousing arpeggios with barely a beat in sight. The long-form piece evolves naturally without ever feeling laborious, moving into various suites that come on like a fine collection of short stories. "Aikomus" meanwhile takes a more linear tack, still stretched over twelve minutes but with a consistent thread that operates in the more mellow end of the techno spectrum, making for some seriously arresting music in the process.
