The Lightmen Plus One's sought-after 1972 set "Energy Control Center" has long been out of reach of all but the most wealthy and dedicated jazz collectors, with original copies regularly changing hands for upwards of 600 quid. Fortunately for those of us without such big budgets, Stones Throw offshoot Now-Again Records has decided to reissue it, expanding the original album to two discs with the addition of unheard alternate takes and previously unreleased tracks. It remains one of the most inspired works of legendary drummer and bandleader Bubbha Thomas - a spiritual jazz masterpiece inspired by some of the most revolutionary jazz of the period. The set also comes with a brilliant booklet that features a detailed history of Thomas' incredible life and career, written by noted jazz and hip-hop journalist Lance Scott Walker.
