Not content with one techno label in Earwiggle, Mr Sunil Sharpe has elected to start another in the shape of On The Hoof. Taking advantage of a new pressing plant in his Dublin base, On The Hoof will be an outlet to quickly put out 12"s in small pressings without needing to use a distributor. In an age where many techno producers are more concerned with getting the right press shots done, this enduring DIY attitude makes Sharpe stand out. Crucially, the music on Hoof001 demands your attention too, with four twisted, jagged and messed up techno bruisers in the producer's singular style. The opener "Post Test" is a wormhole of percussion and sonic nightmares, and the same goes for the equally vicious "Untitledelica". On the flipside, "Owecha" is straighter but nonetheless unforgiving in its approach, while "Gickna" flirts with the idea of house music before unleashing a swarm of pseudo acid squelches and toxic sound effects. Strong and not for the faint-hearted.
