Most know that the Incredible Bongo Band's cover of the Shadows' tune "Apache" was one of hip-hop's foundational records; fewer know Stepak Takraw's 2014 cover version, which re-imagined the instrumental favourite as an extra-percussive chunk of revivalist Afro-funk. Here the killer cut gets the reissue treatment, with the Japanese producer/musician's riotous and energy-packed take coming backed by a fresh re-edit from the Land of the Rising Sun's premier scalpel fiend, Ryuhei The Man. His version is naturally fantastic, emphasizing both the cover's more funk-rock-flavoured elements and the break-dance-friendly drum-breaks. It's a tidy alternative take on a must-have cover version.
