Hawaii-based soft rock-turned-blue-eyed soulster Rob Mehl recorded and released his first full-length, Taste & See way back in 1980. That album has become something of a collector's item for those passionate about yacht rock and obscure West Coast grooves. If your budget won't stretch to L250 (or thereabouts) for a second-hand copy of the album, you can get two of the standout moments on this must-have 7". While sax-laden, funk-fuelled B-side "Taste & See" - think Steely Dan jamming with Boz Scraggs - it's A-side "House on the Rock" that's really floating our boat. Warm, groovy, luscious and complete with a superb vocal from Mehl, it's a blue-eyed soul delight.
