In a previous life, Paul Bennett was something of a scalpel fiend, providing the Moxie Edits imprint with some of its finest moments (and there were many). Since 2009, he's been focusing his attention on original productions, putting out occasional releases on the Modernista label he co-owns with Chris Blaik and Dan Harrington. This third 12" offers some serious thrills. "Overtaking On The Inside" is smooth, hypnotic and lively, sounding like Bennett's take on classic Detroit techno - all hissing cymbals, spacey riffs and relentless beats. "Apologies Apparently Unnecessary" is an altogether more leftfield affair, with intergalactic electronics and acid style tweaks riding a groove that sits somewhere between '80s electro and machine made deep house.
