Japanese trio Nautilus, whose name and style was inspired by the great Bob James, can always be relied upon to deliver sublime slabs of evocative jazz-funk. They're at it again on this must-check seven-inch. On the A-side you'll find original composition 'Inner Space', a superbly intergalactic jazz-funk number piled high with loose-limbed jazz breaks, warming chords and synthesizer solos so spacey they may have been recorded on Pluto. Turn to the flip for their interpretation of Manzel's 1977 classic 'Space Funk', which Nautilus turn into a warming, floor-friendly jazz-funk club jam complete with rubbery slap bass, sweaty drums, poignant pianos and futuristic synth solos.
