Mukatsuku main man Nik Weston has long been a fan of Ghanaian dance music, so it's little surprise to find that the label's latest must-have "45" features classic 1970s cuts from the legendary Pat Thomas and his backing band Marijata (for the record, both were licensed from Strut and previously featured on their killer compilation of Ghanaian highlife and Afrobeat, "Coming Home"). A-side "I Can Say" is a raucous trip into highlife-funk fusion territory where Thomas' urgent lead vocals and rousing horns rise above a suitably heavyweight groove. In contrast flipside "Let's Think It Over" is a sweet Afro-soul treat rich in riotous drums, strong group choral vocals, infectious Hammond organ stabs and a rhythm track that's as righteous as it is addictive.
