Mr Assister, aka Benjamin Assiter, is the drummer in the live band of UK bass hero-turned crooner James Blake and made his bow as a producer with a fine 12" on 1-800 Dinosaur back in 2014. Here he inaugurates the BEAM label with a two-track 12" of some intrigue. "Izma" on the A side definitely has a percussive edge to it, naturally; it's hazy and spiritual Afro vibe is reminiscent of the Yoruba Soul sound. On the flip "Arland Rain" is more on the slo-mo disco tip; this drifting and low slung groove is mesmerising with its chime melody and restrained arpeggio.
