Originally released in 1976, Disco Madness has become something of a cult classic in disco circles. Highly sought-after, too. Having added Nuyorican ingredients into the disco recipe (alongside bassist Ramon Rodriguez), this album was his first solo foray, and there's a sense of vibrancy throughout, taking in aspects of soul, jazz, funk and pop along the way. From the lush and languishing Bob James-esque "Theme From Mahogany" to the vibraphone-sparkled jazz jam on "Poinciana" via the emphatic, stomping straight-up disco opener "My Love Supreme", this really captures disco and DJ culture's most formative spirit. Educational.
