It was way back in 1984 when Jeannine Sifflet released her sole, self-titled album as Meliza. Amongst collectors of zouk records, it has long been regarded as something as a slept-on classic, and as a result original copies have been hard to come by. The good news is that we've been treated to a much-needed reissue, which presents the re-mastered album in a facsimile sleeve. It's in many ways typical of the Guadeloupe style of zouk from the period, with colourful synth sounds and Sifflet's sweet vocals riding typically tropical backing tracks rich in Juju style guitars, calypso-influenced rhythms and warm, toasty basslines. It's the kind of album that will make even the stoniest of hearts sing.
