Roberto Di Giola first brought his Marsmobil project to Compost Records way back in 2006, making him one of the Munich label's longest-serving artists. That said Fairytales of the Supersurvivor - his sixth album in total - marks his first release for some seven years. It mixes his previously explored love of skewed synth-pop, vintage electronics and day-glo electrofunk with eccentric spoken word interludes and moodier forays into dark ambient, experimental electronica, pitch-black post-punk grooves and minimal wave stylishness. The influence of co-producer Peter Kruder is also evident in the use of rich, dub-influenced basslines and warm, freshly baked Rhodes chords. For the most part, it's a quirky, punky and downright odd romp through Di Giola's vivid musical imagination.
