There are shades of The Long Blondes, a femme Alabama 3 and Lykki Li evident on Le Butcherettes latest EP. Fans of HBO's top notch ode to darkness, murder and exceptional music "True Detective" will probably recall this lot from the 2015 World Series Opener, although listening to "Don't Bleed", seven tracks that showcase the breadth of their abilities, places them in a very different setting.
Opener "Wounds Belong To Me" belongs in a somewhat innocent, crackly yesteryear, a heartfelt ode to times when emotions were often left unspoken if it weren't for song or poetry. Counterbalancing this, "Out For You" storms out of the starting blocks with all the subtlety of a headline festival performance. So far, so contrasting. Elsewhere, closer "Boom" goes all downtempo, staccato pop on us, while "Don't Bleed, You're In The Middle Of The Forest" brings in hip hop and R&B vibes.
