Showing himself in a lighter, housier light, Kenny Larkin was in a particularly good mood when he laid down "Smile" for KMS back at the end of the 90s, with sunny piano and loved-up vocals sitting atop a beat with enough bite to distance itself from the average funky house cut. On the flipside he was clearly intent on keeping the crowd-pleasing flavour going with a smart re-working of "Good Life" that recontextualizes Paris' vocals in a crafty, funky house context. As ever Larkin brings some of his sci-fi tendencies to bear even in such accessible situations, and there's no doubt KMS did the right thing to bring these forgotten gems back to the surface.
