Having previously impressed with a lovingly crafted and wildly eccentric 7" single, Jin-Cromanyon (AKA Japanese producer Hidetaka Horie) returns to Macadam Mabo with a much-anticipated debut album in tow. It's a thrillingly lo-fi, off-kilter and DIY style affair, with the producer adding his own impassioned, new wave style vocals to backing tracks rich in cheap drum machine hits and quirky synthesizer melodies. Interestingly, this retro-futurist take on J-pop contains many musical references to both Chicago acid house and Italo-disco, but never really sounds like either of these lauded dancefloor styles. Instead, Horie has created something totally unique and utterly charming.
