Boris Bunnik pushes electronic music to its frostiest borders on Blue Hour, his second release as Hexagon on the Transcendent label. In places here, there are sonic strains that lead to Bunnik's other more lauded projects Versalife and Conforce, specifically the eerie "Absentum" and the dancefloor friendly "Spectral Analysis" respectively. Despite this, it's the tracks where Bunnik breaks free from the defined narratives of his other guises that he really shines as Hexagon. "Forecasts" is a standout inclusion, quite beautifully fragile in its construction with shimmering synth tones that captivate from the moment they hit. 303 patterns slowed to a deathly crawl add to the overall sinister nature of "Physical Dimension" whilst "Illuminated Atoms" is as fine an attempt at frosted electronics as you will hear this year.
