Known to some as the first drummer to play alongside sequenced music, German electronic musician and composer Harald Grosskopf unveiled his first solo album back in 1980, and if the contents still sound exploratory, adventurous and pioneering now we can only imagine finding them four decades ago. OK, so those originals have undergone something of a makeover here, with new interpretations coming from talent including Thorsten Quaeschning, Paul Frick, Keidler and Stefan Lewin, among others. Nevertheless, the groundwork set out by Grosskopf, and the Berliner Schule musical tradition, remain the real highlights of the package - a veritable lesson in one of the most significant movements in electronic music, placed within a contemporary context. We wouldn't consider any collection of arpeggiated synth cornerstones complete without this one in there.
