Since launching last year, Beneath's Mistry imprint has done an impressive job joining the dots between techno and bass music, delivering killer material low-end from Batu, Laksa and Alex Coulton - amongst others - along the way. Here he changes tack, eschewing industry friends and contacts in order to deliver a debut EP from the previously unknown Gaunt. There are four no-nonsense dancefloor weapons to choose from. Naturally, there's much to admire, from the surging, chopped-up drum machine hits of "Crowd Noise" - think fizzing cymbals, bubbling electronics and subtle African percussion - to the freaky alien funk of "JP". Best of all, though, are the mangled dialing tones, surging sub bass, brain-melting hits and dense, broken rhythms of "MMRH".
