Roc Jimenez de Cisneros, who is recently collaborating with Stephen Sharp on the EVOL project, has been concerned with the DIY aesthetics of electronic music since day one. In fact, he likes to revel in "computer music for hooligans", which we like to think of as a straight-up punk mentality which has stretched and evolved beyond the confinements of guitars or the band formula. Thanks to a plethora of distinctive releases for labels like Editions Mego, Alku, and Evol's own self-released material, Cisneros has, by now, racked up a considerable amount of fame and respect; if you think that his output stretches back to the late 90 and early 00s, then you start to get the full picture. These latest experiments, out through Sweden's iDEAL imprint, are as wacky and off-kilter as we would have imagined, with "Track 1" particularly bending the rules - a complete mash-up of different acid tones and jacks are housed under one tracks, under one groove, and under a considerable amount of psychosis! "Track 2" provides more of the same assemblage, unleashing a thick, 303-laced groove full of different ideas and tonalities. It's a killer ride, and one that is representative of the current mental state within underground electronic music.
