First emerging in 2010 with contributions to the Music From Mathematics Vol. 7 split 12? release, Swiss duo Echo 106 have operated on a quality before quantity basis. Last year saw them debut fully on Jamal Moss' co-op label with the Broken Hihat Machine EP, which perfectly describes their lopsided take on rugged Chicago house, whilst the Winter Music release on home label Lux Rec saw Echo 106 dabble in concepts. Despite this, Echo 106 haven't quite received the due attention their music merits, but hopefully that will change with the release of Infernal Regions EP, issued by Lux, which pairs brand new material with archival tracks excavated from the Brunnen-based duo's live sets. Opening track "Gate Of Hell" sets the bar, laying down a thunderous seven minutes of hard jacking and acid tainted techno that comes across like a possessed D'Marc Cantu. Whilst this menacing tone isn't maintained throughout, Echo 106's under-valued qualities shine through with final track "All Is Heard" quite sublime.
