|5.||"Beyond That Hill"|
While his early work throbbed with minimal techno intensity, Italian producer Dusty Kid has spent the last couple of years developing a signature sound that owes as much to classic prog house as it does to booming, Berlinian tech. Beyond That Hill, his second album, further explores this fusion, crafting glistening epics that combine the melody-driven emotional resonance of prog with the chunky, hypnotic back end of techno. There are diversions along the way - see the jangling guitars of "Chentu Mizas" or the uncompromising loop techno of "Polybolo" - but Dusty Kid is at his best when concentrating on form rather than function, as the decidedly epic, 23-minute closer "That Hug" beautifully proves.
