Formerly of lo-fi duo MMOSS, Doug Tuttle has emerged in his own right as an exceptional psychedelic troubadour, and more importantly one as adept at chronicling the darker side of the sound of the '60s and '70s - beyond the exquisite Byrdsian harmonies on show here and the dabbling with Fairport-esque British folk rock, a sense of uncertainty and heartache lurks amidst the pastoral idyll of the songwriting and delicate arrangements. All those recently enamoured of Jacco Gardner or disappointed by the second Fleet Foxes album will find much to admire in this melancholy and autumnal tapestry.
