Jazz Is Dead 5 CD

On previous instalments in their essential Jazz is Dead series, Adrian Younge and A Tribe Called Quest's Ali Shadeed Muhammad have created new contemporary takes on jazz with the assistance of such big hitters as Roy Ayers, Azymuth and Marcos Valle. Volume 5 sees them join forces with legendary jazz pianist and composer Doug Carn on a set that also features fellow musicians from legendary 1970s label Black Jazz. By combining Carn and company's progressive jazz motifs with their own hip-hop, jazz-funk and soul-jazz influences, Yonge and Shadeed Muhammad have once again created something unique and timeless: a fresh blast of jazz that's rooted in the past, but nevertheless sounds like the future.
