Creme Organization and Ann Arbor-based producer D'Marc Cantu join forces for a sixth time on the excellent Alternate Frequency EP. Whilst Cantu first made his name as part of the 2AM/FM and X2 projects with fellow Nation artists Melvin Oliphant III and Tadd Mullinix, the producer has built up a worthy catalogue of solo excursions and for our money tends to be at his best when bolstered by a Creme catalogue number (see his early Creme Jak releases for references) This six track plate maintains D'Marc Cantu's excellent appearance record for DJ TLR's label and demonstrate the full diversity of his production palette. The title track is a wonderfully sci fi indebted slab of acid techno filled with his trademark muffled vocals and coarse claps. "Size And Shape" demonstrates the producer's not afraid to let his melodic impulses take the lead whilst "Straight Shooter" and "Speed Freak" are examples of Cantu at his frenetic best. Fans of the producer's mellower moments will bask in rich bed of sonics that is "Titanium Control Arms" or the tumbling beat em' down of "Tazurko".
