French house producer Frederic Berthet aka DJ Steef has had a quick and rather impressive rise since his first EP for Toy Tonics, back in a distant 2012. Extensive releases for the likes of Biomix, Retrofit and the present Numoment Recordings have helped the producer to solidify his sound, and appeal to a new generation of house-hungry club-fiends. This new four-tracker is disco-flavoured, but firmly house-driven, starting with the vocal-led bump that is "Levaned", followed by the more traditionally Chicago-sounding groove "New Player (Old Rules mix)". Side B breaks out the disco strings through "Kimbo Combo", a tune that nonetheless launches a heavy kick onto the arrangement, and "Frequence" provides a little bit of hazy, smoked-out house vibing for the smaller hours. Nice!
