Over the last few years, Just Jack Recordings' releases have been sporadic to say the least, but what the label does put out is invariably of very high quality. That's certainly the case with this EP from Derek Carr, a producer whose melodic, life-affirming twists on Detroit futurism never fail to inspire. This time round he begins with the warm, evocative, dreamy and intricate "The Matter At Hand" before opting for a more hypnotic groove and bleeping, dubbed-out electronics on the arguably even better "A Hundred Dreams". Meanwhile, superb flipside "Vandalised" sits somewhere between electro, broken beat and vintage IDM, with Carr off-setting his usual ear-catching melodies with "Artificial Intelligence"-era Warp style beats.
