Stockholm and Manchester may not present themselves as city siblings, but that didn't stop Sweden-based, Lancashire-born guitarist Jon Collin and North West England electronic aficionado Demdike Stare from trying to capture the zeitgeist of both cities in an ambient-dub epic. A combination of the musician's freeform blues and producer's well-known penchant for deeply textured work and minute attention to detail.
The eerie 'Portrait, 1939' is sparse and more a collection of sounds. 'Hill Landscape' captures the hook and loop energy of electronic music in a drone-y, broken workout, while 'Boatless Harbour' brings an appropriate air of mystery and the unknown with long, drawn-out chords and a sense of the Lynchian. For the sake of brevity, we'll leave the direct references there, and end by assuring you this is an understated masterpiece.
