Review

Since first emerging from the sleepy backwaters of rural Sweden in 2013, ambient explorers D.A.R.F.D.H.S have been impressively prolific. This full-length for Field - a typically fragile, immersive set that joins the dots between droning creepiness, soft-focus beauty and icy electronica - is their seventh in total, following excursions on Opal Tapes, Clan Destine and Total Black. It's as intoxicating, enjoyable and heart wrenching as ever, with spine tingling melodies wrapping themselves around weightless synthesizer chords, dreamy rhythms and other-worldly textures. There are positive moments, of course, but for the most part it's beautifully poignant, as if the duo is mourning the loss of a dear friend.
