Like its predecessor, Downfall Recordings 2017 debut, the Hydrochloric Substance EP draws together a quartet of TB-303-heavy acid workouts. Up first is "They're At It Again" by Consequence, a sludgy but percussive affair whose cymbal-heavy backing track is smothered in creepy chords, delay-laden spoken word snippets and all manner of restless acid lines. Type 303 impresses with the stripped-back, no-holds-barred jack-track "Acid Will Survive", while Auditor tips a wink towards hip-house on the electro-acid bounce of "Get Down". The sharpest and wildest TB-303 lines on the entire EP can be found on Nufftrip's robust and mind-altering closer, "Free Your Soul", which also includes some seriously fat, bouncy drums.
