It's Christina Vantzou's fifth solo album, and her first that hasn't used a number as its title. The numerical theme does continue, though, with this record clearly demarcated into what she herself defines as 'nine rooms to inhabit'. They certainly present nine very specific experiences, opening on the deep vocal counting of '1234', then spending time at the tense but slow string-led soundscape of 'Back Porch', 'Marmara Beach' and its exotic synth-woodwinds, and the dreamlike harp of 'Wild Beast Research (For Louise Bourgeois)'. It's no wonder she's been described as organic chamber music - close your eyes and what's here transports you to pin-drop performances and immersive installations that may or may not have existed at one time in the past, but look stunning in the mind's eye. Which isn't surprising, considering her previous as one half of audio-visual music duo The Dead Texan, alongside Adam Wiltzie.
