We've not been able to ascertain whether or not the versions of the classic disco and boogie anthems featured on this first volume of the Weekender series are genuine "unreleased disco mixes" from the period, but they certainly sound like they are. What we get is two fine versions of Bell & James' superb sing-along 'Livin' It Up (Friday Night)' - a tastefully extended, DJ-friendly 'version' and a chunkier 'disco club' take that wisely emphasizes the groove and more percussive sections - plus a gradually building extension of Oliver Cheetham favourite 'Get Down Saturday Night' and a decent rearrangement of early Billy Ocean fave 'Nights (Feel Like Gettin' Down)'. In other words, it's a quartet of peak-time disco treats for all those moments when only a familiar favourite will do.
