In the mid 1970s, French musician and songwriter Alain Bellaiche headed to New York, got a band together and recorded two albums at the Bell Sound studio. The pick of the pair is undoubtedly 1976's Sea Fluorescent, a gorgeous and kaleidoscopic fusion of jazz-rock, AOR, jazz-funk and rhythm and blues with occasional deviations towards Mediterranean music, psychedelia and hazy folk-rock. The album has now been given the reissue treatment, with Bellaiche's self-produced masterpiece being expanded via two tracks he recorded in 1981 as part of a short-lived jazz-funk and fusion band called Kirwan Effect. These are much funkier and closer in tone to Weather Report and Herbie Hancock, with slap-bass aplenty and some shiny synthesizer sounds.
