Both are mixed in mono and first is the delicate falsetto of 'The Tinker and the Crab' with is Americana overtones and light flute motifs next to the acoustic guitar strumming and 'Wear Your Love Like Heaven' is another lushly layered folk rock sound.

Their next single 'Take' was just as big and in 1985 came their debut album with further hits 'Thinking of You', 'Castles In The Air' and later on some standout and standalone singles 'I Can't Get Enough of You Baby' and 'Things Could Be Beautiful.' Review: In 2024 urban and club are often interchangeable terms. Both are also painfully reductive, but that's a point for another time. Los Angeles-based vocalist and producer serpentwithfeet is a case in point, an artist who deftly weaves together sexy and seductive with nightlife energy, proving not only the breadth of each canon but also how much ground they can share. While this may not be unfamiliar, it's relatively new ground for the man with the mic in question, whose previous exploits have often been rooted in gospel tones, nodding to his own upbringing in a religious household. GRIP is musically revelatory in that sense, then, and impeccably crafted.

Review: It's hard not to fall for the version of 'Stayin' Alive' featured on the Dominic Lewis-scored and curated soundtrack to Bullet Train - the 2022 David Leitch movie that unfolds on one of Japan's world-famous, super speedy, and appropriately nicknamed 'bullet trains'. The composer made some smart decisions pulling the choices together, opting to focus largely on East Asian pop and rock, with some bold inclusions. One of which is the aforementioned opener. In so far as overuse goes, The Bee Gees' seminal disco anthem is up there with the greatest, and that makes it difficult to find something new to enjoy in it. Drafting Avu-chan, of Japanese 'fashion punks' Queen Bee achieved the unthinkable, then, and sets the tone for a number of excellent covers by Japanese artists (Bonnie Tyler's 'Holding Out For A Hero' by Miki Asakura, 'Kill Me Pretty' by Tamio Okuda of Unicorn), alongside an impressive set of originals from Ryuichi Sakamoto, Carmen Maki, and more.

Review: National Album Day is of course all about reminding music lovers of the joys of a proper good full-length. Not collections of singles, not various versions of the same tune, but a record that was designed to be played from front to back in one sitting.
