  1. Intimacy (feat Lady Vale) (6:40)
  2. Outta Limits (7:17)
  3. Neon City Lights (6:01)
Review: UK stalwarts Audiojack are real workhorses who have provided a myriad of club-ready weapons for DJs all across the board in recent years. Most of it has come on their own Gruuv label, which is where they return now. They open this latest missive with 'Intimacy (feat Lady Vale)', a slow building tune that awakens from a subtle, deep roller into a rather spiritual cut thanks to the fine vocals. 'Outta Limits' indeed explores the sort of deserted distant planets you'd expect from the title, while 'Neo City Lights' could well be the sound of a future disco found on one such exploration.

  2. Make Your Own Sunshine (6:09)
  3. Serpentine Tale (6:02)
  4. The Introducer (8:10)
Review: Although rarely spoken about in hushed tones, Peter Adshead AKA Baby Ford is one of British house and techno's true pioneers. As many readers will know, he spent the first decade of his career exploring acid house and rave, before switching to a deeper and more minimalistic techno and tech-house sound towards the end of the '90s. It's in that period that BFORD14, which is finally being reissued, first appeared in stores. Intoxicating, bass-heavy and entrancing, the EP's many highlights include the hissing hypnotism of 'Serpentine Tale', the deep bass, melancholic synthesiser chords and crunchy drums of 'Night D3 Died', and the spacey, deep techno warmth of deliciously hazy closing cut 'The Introducer'.

  2. Danny Faber - "Hampi" (7:10)
  3. Phonique, Fairplay - "Zatar" (6:45)
  4. Martin Waslewski - "Dimensionen" (6:36)
Review: Berlin's Bar 25 was a real haven in the German party capital. It's reputation lives on strong in the label releases, the latest of which is a celebratory various artist affair. Kiki kicks things off with a heads down tech house stomper that undulates just enough to keep you in the groove.
Danny Faber's 'Hampi' is a headier affair, with suspensory synths keeping you locked on edge and then Phonique and Fairplay link for the more tribal and mysterious sounds of 'Zatar'. Closing out this party-ready EP is Martin Waslewski with the far-gazing chords and twinkling retro future keys of 'Dimensionen.'

Review: Given that they started their ascent to EDM superstardom over a decade ago and have already released a string of genuine crossover anthems, this debut album from Camelphat is undeniably overdue. So was it worth waiting for? If you like their brand of festival-friendly dance music hedonism, then you will genuinely love it. The assembled 21 tracks scattered across two action-packed discs draw influence from many interconnected styles - mostly electro-house, tech-house and techno, but also indie-dance, synth-pop, nu-disco and more bass-heavy flavours - and repackage them as distinctively Camelphat productions, complete with contributions from numerous collaborators and guest vocalists (Noel Gallagher, Skream, Jake Bugg, Yannis Foals, Jem Cooke and Christoph all feature).

  2. Saude (6:02)
  3. Defrag (6:22)
  4. Shy (5:31)
Review: Cesare Marchese aka Cesare vs Disorder is a master of minimalist techno. His faultless discography takes in plenty of labels and now he lands on Nervmusic with four more of his perfectly streamlined cuts. Opener 'Mama Wants Me Slim' is a groove that sounds cautious and unsettled so keeps you on edge, while 'Saude' is more rubbery and rugged in the bass department and tripped out up top. There is glitchy goodness on 'Defrag' for those who life hi definition sounds and 'Shy' closes with a mind warping mix of off-grid hits, bendy bass and freaky tones.

  4. Gunnter - "Shhhake It" (6:11)
Review: French deep house imprint Rutilance reaches its 'Twentieth' release as the name suggests, with four surefire tracks by its label chiefs. On the A side, the ever reliable DJ Steaw hands in two tributes to the sounds of yesteryear: he first captures the classic sound of the Cab Drivers on the tough rolling analogue bounce of "This Kind Of Music", followed by the funky disco loops on "Fat Sherbet". On the flip, co-head Gunnter makes a rare appearance and pushes the envelope harder with his tough rolling and dubby stomper "Wait" and closes it out with the entrancing energy of "Shhhake It" where its sonar bleeps hypnotise you against a backdrop of Todd Terry style 4/4 breakbeats.

Review: Bristol's bass bin botherer and rhythmically playful producer Facta steps up on the label he co-runs with K-Lone for two more of his superbly dialled in dance floor bombs. This ode to real life clubbing kick off with 'Doves' which pairs tripped out sound effects and tropical jungle motifs with a well swung, chunky house groove that comes backed by some serious bass. The second missive is more airy and expansive. 'MPH' blends house and 2-step to dreamy effect with nice rich synths and knocking kick drums that get you up and looking lively.

Review: London-based party crew Tessellate are back with the first in a new series of various artist compilations called Teamwork, which aims to have a musical thread running through each release. On the A side, label staple Firmin delivers more of his signature style of mood music on the sensual 'But On Second Thoughts, Perhaps I Will' followed by French producer Karaba's swung and off-kilter tech house adventure 'Vice Versa'. On the flip, Manchester's Aiden Francis delivers the loved up rave energy of 'Cloud Generator' and closing it out is Les Ondes with what the label best described themselves as 'breaky electro' on 'Phase One'.

Review: The irrepressible impossible to pin down Mule Musiq label rounds out its 2020 with a stunning two-tracker from Frankey & Sandrino, the Essen and Berlin duo who explore some sublime sonics. 'Boson' is a colourful track with warped synths, treated robot vocals and a plodding groove that draws you in deep. It's peppered with subtle details that make it perfect for the more playful moments, then the flip gets more dark and serious, 'Xrain' is built on a heavy groove, with a lead synth spraying about the mix and constantly hinting at darkness ahead. These are simple but effective tunes from this accomplished outfit.

  3. Start Again (5:46)
  4. Leg Le Friend (8:19)
Review: Henry Hyde is back on his usual stomping ground of NorthSouth with some peppy club workouts to get wiggy to. "Locked Out" has plenty of tripped out tones bubbling around the sturdy, Lately bass-fed groove, while "The Red Face Roller" gets more playful with the synth lines without losing the steady, sleek rhythm section. "Start Again" switches the mood but retains the palette, making great use of a grinding bass note to anchor the sprightly blips and dubby bleeps up top. "Leg Le Friend" goes further into the influence of early UK techno with its ethereal pads and intricate melodic elements, capturing the kind of vibe you might have heard on Likemind with a cheeky modern twist.

  6. Abstractus (6:59)
Review: With a career spanning 36 years, German producer Christian Hornbostel is only getting started. From his beginnings in the mid '90s with such pioneering tracks like 'Tranceillusion' (as VFR), to remixing everyone from Satoshi Tomiie and Deep Forest to Vanessa St. James and legend Lou Reed - he's certainly paid his dues. The Bavarian veteran now launches his new imprint Praedikat Records, in order to expand his experimental range and to create a platform for his vinyl releases. Here he presents his new LP entitled Liber Secretus, where besides the evocative melodic techno of opening track 'Aestus' or the clipped rhythms of minimal house groover 'Genius Loci', Hornbostel has his eyes set on strobe-lit warehouses with the rest of the LP. From the steely peak time energy of 'Mysterium' or the deep space sonar transmission of 'Planisphaerium' which is as equally austere, it's a welcome return to form by Hornbostel.

Review: Burnski's Instinct project continues to gather steam with the release of a second album following last year's Still Life, which established the Leeds tech house veteran as a serious player in the new wave of UK garage. The ideas come thick and fast on Point Of View, flowing from the aqueous 2-step funk of 'Pistolwhip' to the 4x4 uplift of 'Sunstream', but the strongest moments come when the sound design collides with formidable bassweight on the likes of 'Select'. This is primarily a collection of club tackle, but it's packed with enough shade and depth to reach beyond the dance for all those other moments when you need a little shuffle in your life.

Review: Ki Mi is one of Russia's most famous exports and this EP shows why: he has a nice futuristic techno sound that is well partnered with collaborator JNJS on first cut 'Invasion'. It sets the EP out on a nice far-sighted journey through space then Sebbe remixes 'St Terrace' into a nice slick house bumper with a compelling groove. Superlounge then offers up a version of STM that would fit well into a set by a tech house great like Craig Richards. 'Lastochka' (Ilya Schulz remix) cloys out with the most spacey vibe and heady pad work of the lot. It's an atmospheric masterpiece.

Cat: AR 01. Rel: 30 Nov 20
  1. Deep Again (8:10)
  2. NMS (6:20)
Review: Lazare Hoche and Malin Genie join forces for a sublime trip through psychoactive tech house that edges away from minimal and into a more colourful, analogue headspace. 'Deep Again' revels in swooping pad swells and rounded lead hooks, of course strapped to one of those impeccably executed four-to-the-floor beats. 'NMS' jacks things up with a punchy synth line and snappy claps that are perfectly honed for the peak time, but there's still a luxuriant melancholy lingering behind the rhythm section thanks to more spacious atmospherics. This is as classy as tech house gets, but what else did you expect from two operators in their absolute prime?

Review: Arcane and esoteric 'Rominimal' flavours offered up once again on Bucharest's Kontour, this time by emerging artist Vlad Leanca who follows up promising efforts on Hashplant and Alter Hour. Get a load of KNTNT 003: featuring the exotic hypnotism of 'Zboina Zare' that's reminiscent of Zefzeed or local hero Nu Zau's early work, or the knackered after hours paranoia of 'Rockability' and its rather apt vocal sample along the lines of 'things go bump in the night.. I'd like to keep it that way'. On the flip, we have an extended DJ tool in the form of 'Umbral Marelui Falnic' and it's lean, boompty, weirdo groove, taking you deeper into a Sunday afternoon sleep deprived trance.

Review: Throughout his lengthy career, Steve O'Sullivan has proved adept at delivering "proper techno" tracks that are a cut above those of his contemporaries. This re-issued three-tracker for Rawax shows him doing just. A-side 'Off Message' sets the tone, with O'Sullivan layering deep space chords and gentle intergalactic melodies atop a tough-but-rubbery beat. The sweatier and sleazier 'Night Nurse' boasts fizzing, fill-happy drum machine percussion and deep space chords that recall the early years of Detroit techno, while 'Porcupine Grove' is a snappy, pitched-up romp rich in crunchy TR-909 beats, faintly foreboding background chords and tight melodic loops.

In this new adventure, Castro and his cohorts are focused on something they describe as 'micro-bumping-groovy-housy-music' - and that sounds fairly on-point really. Up first on the first side of Pretty Bouncy 001 is Mexico's Miguel Puente with some lean and subtle tackle for the late night, followed by Agus Ferreyra & Trentz with some deep and sensual afterhours business - as per usual. On the flip, Argentinian Prodot serves up some off-kilter boompty boomp that's real smooth, and closing it out is boss man Castro with some proper mid noughties minimal vibes - nice!

  1. Inception (intro) (2:43)
  2. Momentum I (7:08)
  3. Nocturne (6:16)
  4. Momentum II (7:15)
  5. Diurnal (8:17)
Review: Neighbour Recordings is a German label run by Birke TM and Sven Schienhammer aka Quantec - the latter bringing you its sophomore release. Schienhammer has released on renowned imprints such as Echocord, Silent Season and Toffler (to name but a few) so you're in good hands with this veteran artist on the Moments EP. Featuring some absolutely sublime dub techno experiments: from the glacial and cavernous bliss of 'Momentum I', the rolling groove of 'Nocturne' with its endless echo-laden chords, as well as the evocative acid-washed deepness of 'Diurnal' on the flip. Terrific stuff from an underrated producer - tip!

Cat: ELARUM 008. Rel: 18 Nov 20
  1. Saints & Suicide (7:14)
  2. Saints & Suicide (VLF remix) (8:21)
  3. Birds Never Sin (7:46)
  4. Cosmic Archive (6:45)
Review: With previous releases coming from top producers such as iO (Mulen), Kirik and Tolga Top, Moscow label Elarum returns with more ethereal tech house sounds. This time around they have the ascendant Rares Romanov serving up some 'Rominimal' style flavours on the Saints & Suicide EP. The title track is a swinging and off-kilter expression in microhouse that would be perfect afterhours tackle for the Club Guesthouse dancefloor, while the remix up next by VLF is a dub-laden and hypnotic tech house adventure for the main room. On the flip, Romanov saves the best for last with the moody rolling drama of 'Cosmic Archive'.

Zbor Tandem EP
Zbor Tandem EP (180 gram vinyl 12")
Cat: BM 003. Rel: 23 Nov 20
  1. Fluturul (10:10)
  2. Vulturul (7:51)
  3. Si Gaita (8:07)
Review: The Botanic Minds stable continue to inject the vague framework of minimal club music with some colour and sass with this excellent EP from Romanian mainstay Sepp. 'Fluturul' is a perfect 10-minute escapade with a seriously funky bassline and dreamy but snappy melodic hooks on top to carry you away in a reverie of sunkissed psychedelia. 'Vulturul' takes things in a deeper direction without losing the panache and personality that made the A side a winner. 'Si Gaita' seals the deal with a sundown delight that weaves together more of those interlocking melodic lines to get bodies shaking in an effortless, day-into-night fashion that spells out a long and fruity session ahead.

Jargon (12")
Cat: DC 06. Rel: 20 Nov 20
  1. SNAD - "Jargon" (7:31)
  2. SNAD - "Urban Decay" (6:09)
  3. Jackson Lee - "Syntax Error" (8:14)
  4. Jackson Lee - "Clouds Of Xeen" (5:56)
Review: Deep Club launches another split-12" consisting of two unlikely pairings. Berlin via Chicago's Snad leads the A-side. After co-founding Gandu Records in Chicago he jumped across the pond, where his output increased quickly for the likes of Minibar and Smallville while contributing to US favorites Kimochi and TerraFirm. On Jargon / Syntax Error, "Jargon" encompasses his signature style of deep, minimal, swinging house. The track builds over almost eight minutes with a massive rolling baseline and sporadic synth stabs and pads. Mix out too early and you miss the point. "Urban Decay" is a bass massage that hits only on the right sound system or headphones. Jackson Lee takes side B in a different direction while still exploring themes around deep and minimal. The mysterious NYC via Memphis techno producer boasts an impressive catalog on his Mystical Disco imprint, as well as collaborations with Ben Jenkins, R Gamble and Grey People. "Syntax Error" is an extended techno bomb with a massive kickdrum that will leave dancefloors sizzling. The eerie effects crawling in and out of the texture and sharp hats combine with the low end for a masterclass in deep techno. "Clouds of Xeen" brings the energy down with distortion, wispy pads, and glistening layers, making it a great choice for 6 AM sleaze.

  9. Confidence Dub (6:16)
  10. Raindance 101 (4:50)
  11. Upon Mountains (3:55)
Review: Industry veteran Steve 'Bug' Bruegesch has been more productive than ever in recent years. The Poker Flat chief returns to his beloved imprint for the eighth full length in his career, which was produced over months of enforced isolation during 2020's coronavirus pandemic. Obviously unable to tour during this time, he instead focused completely on producing without having the dancefloor as a constant influence. With that in mind, there certainly is a wide variety of moods and grooves explored on Never Ending Winding Roads: from the slinky and hypnotic minimalism of 'Ludic Loops', to the sci-fi electro beats of 'A Conscious Machine', the sensual and dub-laden mood music of 'The Awakening' (reminiscent of sounds from his sister imprint Dessous) or the knackered downbeat experience of 'Raindance 101' - contemplation and reflection is more evident in his work than ever here.

6 Years Of Eastenderz Pt 2
6 Years Of Eastenderz Pt 2 (coloured vinyl 12")
Cat: ENDZ 041. Rel: 01 Dec 20
  1. Chris Stussy - "Pendulum" (7:19)
  2. Rossi - "Apathe" (7:54)
  3. Cuartero - "Heavenly" (7:33)
  4. Okain - "Flyaa" (8:36)
Review: Beats bubblier than Babs Windsor, grooves more relentless than Phil Mitchell on a bender, charm like Ian Beale when he's living his best life; Eastenderz have been a consistent source of serious late night deep house delights for six years now. And rather than looking back over past achievements to celebrate the anniversary, they've reached out to some of their most exciting new members. Djebali's Chris Stussy breaks the ice with a timeless Northern Exposure-flavoured progressive breaks style jam before newcomer Dutchman Rossi weaves up some Om-style west coast dreams on 'Apathe'. Flip for a Luke Solomon MFF-era tech house bubbler from Spain's Cuartero before longtime groovesmith Okain makes his Eastenderz debut with the dubbed out Tejada-level hypnosis on 'Flyaa'. Warmer than Frank Butcher's overcoat.
