Review: 'At Les' is one of Carl Craig's most beloved productions: a gorgeously dreamy chunk of Innerzone Orchestra style tech-jazz that first surfaced - on a now in-demand compilation - 25 years ago. Craig has revisited it several times since, but it's Christian Smith's 2010 reworks - reissued on this 12" for the first time since - that are arguably the most peak-time ready and dancefloor-centric. On the A-side 'Tronic Treatment' version Smith layers the track's iconic synthesizer motif - heart-achingly poignant and drenched in delay - and deep, spacey chords over deep, rumbling sub-bass and a crunchy deep house beat. Smith ups the tempo and intensity on the arguably even better 'Hypnotica Mix', which is closer in tone to pure Motor City techno and features a genuinely spellbinding breakdown.

Review: We've been enjoying the first few volumes of Selador Recordings's Magic Black Plastik series and this fourth one keeps the quality levels high. It assembles a fine crew of artists for some quality house steeped in emotion. 'Will We Ever Learn' (Jamiie remix) opes up with some sophisticated string stabs and nice deep groove before a Luke Brancaccio & Gai Barone remix brings a little techno futurism and steeliness to Anthony Pappa & Jamie Stevens's 'Hold You Back.' The B1 is a tune to lock a late night crowd into a melodic haze and the final Tim Engelhardt remix is a chunky but melodic roller.

Review: In celebration of their tenth birthday, Selador marks the occasion in style with a four-track collaborative EP, featuring tracks from 3D, Robert Owens, Olivier Giacomotto, Quivver, Dave Seaman, Hernan Cattaneo, Argia, and Jepe. The opening track, 'Known Love', is a deep, pulasting house tune that feels like an instant classic, perhaps thanks to the soulful, pop-tinged vocals - think LCD soundsystem meets Four Tet. 'Snailblazer', the second track on the EP, takes a much darker turn, with a chugging, EBM-esque feel. Full-bodied and complete with obscured vocals, this is the kind of track to pull out your bag when it's time to really get stuck in. On the B-side, 'Napkin Knowledge' draws on the glistening synths of eurodance, yet still securing the melodies to a grounded bassline and rhythm section. 'Salitre' is the perfect closing track, rising up in a gleaming, ecstatic melody, before delicately returning to ground level. A varied yet firmly cohesive collaborative release - the perfect way for Selador to kick off their 2023 catalogue.

Review: To celebrate its first anniversary Lempuyang firmly stakes its claim amongst the forefront of deep techno labels with an outrageous line-up consisting of eight of the most respected heads in the business, all doing their stuff across four pieces of vinyl. Among the highlights are the growling menace of Sa Pa's 'Randomer', Gradient's fizzy, dubbed up 'Dopamine Rain' wearing its Basic Channel influence on its sleeve, the ghostly rave stabs of Deadbeat's 'Planterwald' among a sea of radioactive white noise and the clear, sculpted linear grooves of 'Growing Pains' by Bluetrain. That said, there's no weak link among the eight cuts and put together into one coherent package it's more than the sum of its parts.

Review: As if the first two volumes of the Dimensions series weren't enough, Steve O'Sullivan is back on Sushitech with a final Parallels addendum to the collaborative series. On this occasion, the double vinyl set is reserved for four special longform mixes which let the ideas roll out in a truly hypnotic style. Of course, that's exactly how Ricardo Villalobos likes it and 'Short Circuit' tangles up beautifully in a mesh of interlocking rhythmic hiccups and immersive pads. Thomas Melchior holds down a sweet sustained groove for O'Sullivan's illustrious melodics on 'The Shadow' before Dana Ruh helps strip things down even further on the murmuring 'Beneath The Surface'. Soela pops up once again on 'Healing Spirals', lending a delicate and intricate touch which rounds the release off in beautiful, understated style. - vinyl only!

Review: The ever reliable East End Edits return with more anonymous white label minimal house shenanigans. On their eleventh edition in the series they have a surefire UK tech house number that rolls tough, is packed full of swing and with classic NYC house tropes all the way. A chord progression fuelled by glistening keys, bumping bass and familiar RnB vocals from the early 2000's that all come together for something pretty special. Again, it's anyone's guess who's responsible for this one, but the label is tight lipped as always - tip!

Review: The EEE series may utilise a very simple blueprint - each single-sided, one-track release combines tasty, 21st century tech-house grooves with vocal lifts and instrumental samples from a classic cut - but so far, the publicity-shy producer behind it has yet to put a foot wrong. This ninth instalment in the ongoing series is every bit as alluring as its predecessors, in part because the headline-grabbing Nina Simone vocal samples are used sparingly and dropped into the mix for maximum impact. They mainly appear within the melodious, smile-inducing breakdown, before making way for a return to the track's chunky, seemingly squeezable tech-house groove and sweet, glassy-eyed lead lines. On paper it shouldn't work, but it really does, making this another must-check EEE release.

Review: Here's a welcome surprise: a reissue of one of the most revered records in the back catalogue of sadly departed Sheffield deep house imprint Toko. This 1997 gem is actually an all-star affair, with Klarky Cat (a reference to legendary satirical show Brass Eye) being a collaboration between Chris Duckenfield, Toko bosses Alec Greenhough and Paul Ingall (better known as Attaboy) and influential, overlooked Manchester producer Si Brad. In. its original form, "Gumbo" mixes the wavy, loved-up dreaminess of classic deep house with the organ sounds of U.S garage and the swinging, occasionally glitchy drums of early UK tech-house. It comes backed with a darker, chunkier and more foreboding rework (the mesmerising "Blooty Mix"), and the bright, acid-flecked sunrise giddiness of rather good bonus track "Custard Gannet".

Review: Seminal reissue alert! Baby Ford had already been a chart-baiting acid house superstar by the time he launched the PAL SL label in 1996. He'd left behind the major label scene and moved firmly back into the underground with exploratory techno releases on Ifach and collaborations with Mark Broom. This new label marked a shift for Ford though, setting him up for the trips into minimalist club tracks that have been his bread and butter for decades now. Review: Omakase keeps up the momentum of its fine first release with a second sizzling followup, this time from Trauma alongside Anton under their collaborative guise Antraum. It's a case of super silky sounds only here with deft and dubbed out tech on the opener 'Hachi', which is defined by a superb vocal hook. 'Roko' is a jittery rhythm with breakbeat and icy cold hits all warmed through by a fine bassline. 'San' shuts down with a nice laid back tech beat that encourages you to sink deep into it.

Review: New label Autochrome kicks off with good intent - not only does this one come on nice heavyweight wax with a cheeky Homer Simpson logo, but the minimal tech beats are fresh indeed. 'Ritmatic' is all bubbly lines and underlapping bass, with gurgling synths making you move. 'Powermood' then gets more funky, with clipped bass vocals smeared into the arrangement to bring soul and dynamism. 'Mucanue' closes out with balmy cosmic pads swirling around clacking drums. Review: Make Your Own Meaning continues to convey its unique techno message with a new statement of intent from label head Lurka. The artist has been busy of late and continues to be on a roll with another fascinating four tracker that genuinely serves up some original sounds and rhythms. 'Trip' gets things underway with organic percussive patterns stacked up over drilling bass to make for a prickly groove. 'Airlock' is similar but darker and heavier and 'Sick Flips' keeps the nimble feel going with dancing perc, rigid synths and scratchy sound effects all coalescing over broken drum patterns. Last of all is another dense, busy and multi-layered melange of tiny percussive sounds, synths and clipped rhythms that will make any floor move.

Review: Innervisions continue their exploration of house music's myriad sub-genres with this EP from Berlin-based Ede. The title of the record is instructive, as this breakthrough artist from the label's Secret Weapons series seeks to fuse the unmistakable sound of Detroit with an unabashed pop streak. The vocals are front and centre on these tracks, and they sound absolutely huge when strapped to a stadium-sized remix of 'Do My Thing' from the mighty Dixon on the A1. The titles may be blank as anything, all binary and consisting of 1s and 0s in slightly different orders, but the instrumental, slowly-enveloping tracks have plenty of personality. Fans of Sahko, Chain Reaction and Ilian Tape's more esoteric offerings will love it.

Review: This is the third full-length album by veteran Swedish producer Ola Obergman who has been producing since the turn of the millennium on respected imprints such as Skam, Borft and Futhur Electronix. A heavy collection of 808-based fusion in classic Pariter style, Mirror Counterpart is a cohesive effort featuring some truly impressive productions; from the early proto-house sound of the title track, to the Detroit influenced hi-tech soul cuts on the second disc - 'Indeterminacy' and 'Stellar Triangulation' respectively - going into 4/4 robot funk on the second disc with 'Alice Matter' and 'Uncertiny Principle' being the highlights. Review: The latest from Steve O'Sullivan and Mosaic's archive-raiding series sees the first ever airing of an unreleased extended mix of the soft and soul-drenched 'Composure', plus two choice selections on the flip - the sleek sub-bass powered 'She Don't Do Chicks' and a dub mix of the equally streamlined 'Bumper Car'. If the A-side is a luxurious period piece of sorts - it could be related to Underground Resistance's 'Galaxy 2 Galaxy' for instance - then two on the other side could have been made yesterday they're so relevant and playable, coasting along with the kind of subtly jacking framework and dubby basslines that G Man made his own. Review: Following up releases on Kaluki Music and Nothing Else Matters, Peterborough native Alisha joins the Eastenderz family to present the awesome Visions EP. The title track is proper UK flava with its roaring speed garage style sub-bass that's underpinned by a swing-fuelled rhythm, followed by the equally bass-driven and druggy late-night vibe of 'Hallucinate. On the flip, 'Burnen' is a minimal number that takes a wonkier direction yet still very much in-line with the label's style, and ending with the tough rolling main room tackle of 'Offenn'. Review: Dimmish is one of those names making himself ever more a part of the tech house firmament and he deserves the acclaim as this new EP on Easternderz proves. It is high grade tackle with several different stylistic nuances. 'Orbit' is a warm pumper with funky bass rotations and well designed drums under balmy pads. 'Lemon Life' ups thence with more high speed, high power but always funky grooves and lithe synths, and 'Singularity' rides on a wave of subtle melody that takes you ever higher. The closer 'Dissolve' with its more colourful and playful melodies might be the best of a great lot.

Review: Native Soul Recordings has been around a long old time in dance music terms and now it looks back over some of its finest works with this first in a new series of Best Of comps. Music writer Harold Heath is first up with 'Slipstream,' an effortless smooth late-night house cut with introspective chords and silky pads bringing real depth. The Candy Dealers get more lithe and elastic with the spraying bass and jumbled percussive house of 'Train Of Thought' and last of all, Asad Rizvi remixes Jevne's 'Moderize' with a funky little bassline and chord vamps that keep you on edge. Review: Revelation - not the 70s soul and disco group but in this case, the short-lived house duo from New York City - dropped just three EPs and this was the second one from 1990. 'Synth It' is a mix of sounds with phenomenal synth work. The poised techno chords are balanced with electro roots and a squelchy acid line then you get a weird and wonderful bleepy dub trance sound on 'First Power (Domination Dub).' It is loved up and very special. Add in two other fine versions and you have a killer reissue here.

Review: First released in 2006, 'Ceerial Port' is the ultimate wildcard in the electro profligate Ceephax's towering discography. The seven-or-eight track album does things with the electro form that few of Mr. Jenkinson's contemporaries would dare ever indulge, were it not for this initial fatherly stamp of approval. lead reissue cut 'Acid Whorl' is the foremost case in point, hard-limiting and soft-clipping a cyclonic 'whorlwind' of pitch-whacked acid effluence. Further 8-bit playtimes come in the form of 'Acid Highway' and 'Acid Causeway', recalling the feeling of scouring the outer edges of an Atari Kart game and encountering nothing but rolling, pixelated skies; 'Tough Grugoy Acid' and 'Woodlice Acid' make up the longer wavelengths on the spectrum, stomping and echo-rimshotting to ever-weighty, yet jolly ends.

Review: Huntleys & Palmers introduced the wider world to the production talents of Sophie via his excellent Auntie Flo remix, and the same label offers further insight into this producer's clear understanding of how a good house track works on this killer 12". Sophie's statement that he tries "to make music which is fun to dance to-that should be the loudest voice talking" is very much evident on both "Nothing More To Say" and "Eeehhh". Already a long term favourite of everyone from Actress to Kode9 via the Numbers crew, it's great to finally have the chunky house business of "Nothing More To Say" on vinyl, whilst "Eeehhh" is even more impressive, literally exploding with vivid, colourful melodies.

Review: Superb new 4 track EP from Germany's Move D (aka David Moufang of Source Records, KM20, Warp, Liebe*Detail). If you remember his legendary "Kunststoff" album and all his warm analogue techno, house and deep ambient works and you may will have a deja-vu. Pure class!

Review: Given their famously militant approach to music formats, it's a surprise to see Paranoid London's previously vinyl-only 2014 debut album finally being issued on CD. For those who missed out first time around, it's well worth checking. As you might expect, it makes great use of both vintage analogue equipment and similarly old skool influences, in turn doffing a cap to Phuture-style Chicago acid, Inner City, hip-house, Green Velvet, Dance Mania style ghetto-house, and stripped-back, dancefloor-friendly machine soul. Despite the ragged nature of some of the material, it's both hugely listenable and hangs together impressively - no mean feat given the DJ-friendly nature of the tracks. It all adds up to a retro-futurist treat.

Review: With such a heavyweight trio of tech-house talents involved, you'd expect this surprise studio hook-up between Enzo Siragusa, Archie Hamilton and Subb-An to be rather good. Predictably, both tracks hit the spot. A-side "Playdem" hits all the right notes, with the experienced threesome wrapping creepy chords, jaunty piano motifs and carefully chosen spoken word snippets around a fireside-warm bassline and snappy, handclap-heavy machine drums. The fun continues on flipside "Shimmering", a ludicrously loose and bass-heavy roller blessed with deep and trippy electronics and just the right of late night funk. Really, though, it's the weightiness of the sub-bass that hits home hardest.

Review: This is a cheeky single-sided affair that contains a gently tooled-up, rolling and rearranged version of a Marlena Shaw-sampling jazz-house classic that is rightly considered something of a dancefloor classic. The edit itself is undoubtedly rather good, subtly adding a little more bottom-end grunt whilst making a little more of the original's snaking sax parts, much-loved vocal sample and groovy jazz percussion. You can decide or not whether the re-edit was needed; certainly, the mystery re-editor has done a rather tidy job on the rework.

If you check label like Eya then you're going to love the vibe Rossi puts across, leading in with the subby 90s house strut of 'Honey I'm' and continuing apace with the cheeky acid bump of 'Fly'. Keeping the pace up and ensuring the sounds are fat and warm throughout, 'Knock Knock' lays down some chunky b-lines and 'Wildcard' slips into a trippier, broken beat arrangement for the consummate B2 experience.
