From London To Lagos (WheelUP remix) (5:28)
From London To Lagos (4:43)
Black Lives Matter (Sam Redmore remix) (6:40)
Black Lives Matter (5:50)
Review: During the first COVID-19 lockdown of 20210, London-based afrobeat collective Eparapo, an - all-stars - outfit helmed by Afrobeat Orchestra member Suman Joshi and featuring his good friend Dele Sosimi, remotely recorded a handful of killer cuts. Two of these previously digital-only gems have finally made it to vinyl, accompanied by brand-new remixes. 'From London To Lagos' is an admirable commentary on corruption set to a fuzzy, infectious, Fela Kuti style afrobeat workout, while 'Black Lives Matter' is a slowed-down, stretched out and musically detailed affair that proudly takes aim on international racism. The 'Wheelup Remix' of 'From London To Lagos' cannily re-imagines the track as a tactile, spacey and bass-heavy chunk of shuffling deep house warmth, while Sam Redmore's revision of 'Black Lives Matter' gives the track a more dancefloor focused afrobeat twist.

Review: Jamie Finlay is a composer, producer, musician, DJ, and all-round good guy from Manchester. "Show Me" is backed up with a stunning dancefloor re-work of the club sleeper from the b-side of Jamie's last single "Temperature". This is an excellent Wah Wah 45's release.

Do The Cookie Dough Throw (Lay Far remix) (5:35)
Tiger Jaw (Wrongtom dub) (3:38)
Jackpot (feat Anne Frankenstein - BJ Smith remix) (7:15)
Review: The Gene Dudley Group's debut album, Zambidoose, included one of the highlights of Summer 2015 - a righteous, brass-heavy funk cover of Todd Terje's nu-disco anthem "Inspector Norse". Here, other tracks from that set are given a new lease of life via three new remixes. Alexander Lay-Far kicks things off, subtly turning "Do The Cookie Dough Throw" into a righteous chunk of swinging, offbeat Latin house/funk fusion. In contrast, mixing desk maestro Wrongtom delivers a booming, bass-heavy dub reggae interpretation of "Tiger Jaw", while BJ Smith goes all warm, organic and Balearic on his invitingly sunny mix of "Jackpot", complete with dreamy vocals from Anne Frankenstein.

Sinner (Envee remix) (4:26)
Review: The gritty, stomping funk finale track from Honeyfeet's debut album earlier this year, "Meet Me On The Corner" gets the treatment: Crazy P get so spaced out and cosmic they leave an original and a dub version which are both as cosy and dreamy and loaded with slap bass as each other. Elsewhere Mihail Popov brings a straight up deep house twist that nods with reverence to Paris with is stately jack and shimmered chords. Last but not least comes a subtly dark-tinged horn melting twist on the band's debut single "Sinner" from Envee. Wah Wah aren't cutting corners on this one.

Review: The man who brought us the groundbreaking "Drum & Bossa" for Hospital Records returns to wax with a new outing for Wah Wah 45s, taking in house, hip-hop and 'dubstep soul' flavours. Tim Landslide has been beavering away in the studio, working with a plethora of vocal talent, and has come up with yet another original sound for "Solitary".

Review: Middlewood Sessions is here with 'Red Waters' a double-a sided single on
Wah Wah 45s. This single shows off the boys' penchant for a club jazz banger
on 'Red Waters' combined with a sublime, string laden, timeless vocal cut on
'Astro Blue'. 2008 looks like being a big year for them.

Funky Spider Dance (The Reflex revision) (7:07)
A Fifth Of Beethoven (The Reflex revision) (7:31)
Back Home Sweet Home (The Reflex revision) (7:32)
Review: The Wah Wah 45s label is responsible for rescuing of the work of long forgotten Canadian/Haitian pianist, Henri-Pierre Noel. Both his 1979 debut Piano and its early 80s follow-up One More Step have been rediscovered and repressed by the label, and here we get a selection of cuts from the latter all reworked by the French producer The Reflex. There are four killer reworks here - the pumped up Afro-disco belter, "Funky Spider Dance", the boogie-up clavinet heavy take on "A Fifth Of Beethoven", the ramshackle island grooves of "Back Home...Sweet Home" and toughened up raw funk of "Diskette". Class.

American Cars (acoustic mix) (3:36)
American Cars (Africanz On Marz West Coast Drive rework) (5:39)
Life (acoustic mix) (4:26)
Life (Scrimshire remix) (4:55)
Review: Wah Wah 45s return to the world of reissues by offering up a fresh (and expanded) pressing of an overlooked acoustic soul gem from the early 1990s. SAM was a short-lived collaboration between singer-songwriter Sam Edwards and producer Alex Boyesen, who met while the was working for the Haringey Music Workshop community project, with the pair self-releasing a two-track single. You get both of those cuts here: the simply sublime, life-affirming acoustic soul-jazz brilliance of 'American Cars' and the even more jazzy 'Life', both of which feature staggeringly good lead vocals from Edwards. The EP also includes two fresh remixes: an extended, subtly beefed-up jazz-dance revision of 'American Cars' from Ashley Beedle's Afrikanz on Marz project, and a warming, colourful, synth-sporting take on 'Life' by Adam Scrimshire.

You Will Save Me (Spiritual South remix)
You Will Save Me
Review: It's been a long journey for this young producer and multi-instrumentalist, ever since his Nan introduced him to an Errol Garner record when he was 14. Scrimshire's sound is steeped in jazz, soul and funk, but with a nod to contemporary sounds, and with strong popular songwriting sensibilities. This man knows how to write a tune! So, straight out of Scrimshire's basement studio in Streatham, South London, we bring you the first single to be released on Wah Wah 45s. "You Will Save Me" started life as a gospel tune, but, without the talents of The London Community Gospel Choir available, Scrimshire enlisted the help of well respected keyboard wiz Jessica Lauren to let her fingers do the talking on this anthemic, jazz/house monster. Remix pressure comes courtesy of fellow South Londoner Mark 'Spiritual South' Robertson, who ups the ante with a scorching piano-house remix, full of drama and breakdowns, as you would expect from such a production genius.

Love Untold
Cold
Review: The Sesong project grew out of the beautiful Norwegian city of Stavanger, and has brought together some of the finest musicians that the place has to offer. It's a collaboration between producer and DJ Snorre Seim, drummer Øyvind Jakobsen and singer/songwriter Thomas Dybdahl, who supplies vocals for the brilliant folky soul of 'Cold'. Britt Synnøve Johansen, from the 'herring-jazz' capitol of Haugesund, also features on the lead track, the life-affirming soul/jazz killer 'Love Untold', and all four have been central players in the rich and diverse musical world of scandinavia, although largely on completely different scenes. Snorre and Øyvind make up the Butti 49 duo. Their debut album was released on Exceptional Records last year, and the pair have gained plenty of props for their remix work for labels such as Compost Records, Cosmic Sounds and the like. Snorre comes from a DJing background, and Øyvind is a much in-demand drummer and multi-instrumentalist. He's played in several bands with Thomas for a number of years, and, was an original member of Thomas' backing band, The Great October Sound. Thomas, guitar virtuoso, and one of the greatest vocal talents to ever come out of norway, has now finished his hugely successful October-Trilogy - three albums released every october over three years. With his instense, dynamic and soulful vocals he also performs with top Norwegian outfit, The National Bank (which includes members of Jaga Jazzist!.) Britt Synnøve Johansen has been involved in the Stavanger musical theatre scene for some time. She's had a lot of success recording Norwegian covers of Edith Piaf classics, but don't let that put you off!!

You No Fit Touch Am (Modified Man remix) (5:23)
Sanctuary (Titeknots remix) (4:48)
We Siddon We Dey Look (Straight Molin') (Ptaki remix) (8:44)
Review: The title track from his Nostalgia 77 produced album You No Fit Touch Am, long-time Fela affiliate and Egypt 80 musical director Dele's original is a beautifully warm, authentic slice of timeless afro soul. Here it enjoys two creative reinterpretations; Medlar adds a little synth sparkle and sturdier kick while Modified Man spaces out the elements for a cosmic twist that's not dissimilar to a Jazzanova record. Deeper into the 12" we find remixes of album tracks "Sanctuary" and "We Siddon We Dey Look". The former sees Titeknots turn in a big sun-splashed soulful house moment rich in the original's traditional percussion, the latter sees Ptaki throw down a wonderfully slo-mo dubby disco epic.

I Don't Care (Books remix) (5:45)
I Don't Care (Bopperson remix) (6:09)
Review: The second version instalment that explores Kuti student Sosimi's 2015 album You No Fit Touch Am, Wah Wah have recruited more innovators to take fresh perspectives on Dele's crisp Afrobeat. DJ Khalab mirrors the guitars with rising synth textures that sit subtly in the background adding more tension that's released with a brilliant blunt bass hook. O Flynn adds just a little dubby disco charm to "E Go Betta" while Books gives "I Don't Care" a serious twist as it intros with swooshing Hidden Orchestra style breaks before dipping into a chugging house stomp. Bopperson closes on a slow smouldering note, creating more space around the Dele's beautiful instrumentation. Refixes fit to touch.

Full Moon (6:53)
Gudu Gudu Kan (6:21)
You No Fit Touch Am (Medlar remix) (9:35)
Review: Here's something a little unexpected: a collaborative EP from British Afrobeat/Afro-soul hero Dele Sosimi and renowned deep house and disco fusionist Medlar. The latter's influence is clear on superb opener 'Full Moon', where Sosimi's keys and sweet, soulful vice rise above a deliciously sparse backing track full of lo-fi, sideman-style drums (think Teddy Pendergass's 'Why Can't We Live Together'), lazy guitar solos and squiggly synth-sounds. It can also be heard on 'Gudu Gudu Khan', a William Onyeabor-esque chunk of Afro-synth brilliance topped off by brilliant vocals by Sosimi. To round the EP off, Medlar provides his interpretation of earlier Sosimi single, 'You No Fit Touch Am', offering up a club-ready take that sits somewhere between housed-up Afrobeat and synth-sporting Afro-disco.

Deep House
Full Moon (Detroit Swindle remix) (6:27)
Gudu Gudu Kan (Daz-I-Kue remix) (7:38)
Review: The recent collaborative EP from London-based Afrobeat star Dele Sosimi and established deep house and disco producer Medlar was simply superb, with the fusion of the two artists' disparate styles working wonderfully well. Hopes are naturally high then for this remixed version. Dutch deep house stalwarts Detroit Swindle handle side A, cannily layering Sosimi's vocals and Afro-funk keys over a squelchy analogue synthesizer bassline and reverb-laden, proto-house style drums. It's a very good revision all told. On the flip West London scene veteran Daz-I-Kue does his thing with 'Gudu Gudu Kan', smartly re-imagining it as a prime slice of loose-limbed Afrobeat/broken beat fusion that makes of the most of Sosimi's Fela-style horns and vocals.

Deep House
Glory (vox)
Glory (dub)
Review: Big proto house refix action from certified UK legend Ashley Beedle - not that many producers from these shores can count over 440 remixes on their CV! The Wah Wah 45 press machine might have slightly erred in claiming Beedle was aiming for a Factory Records vibe on these two versions of "Glory" by resident chanteuse Stac - the tough, intense and raw rhythms are much more in line with the iconic NYC nightspot The Sound Factory. What is certain is that Beedle excels, giving the abstract future soul leanings of Stac's original production two very different slants - check the dub mix for a soaring disco lean if the dark and long bump of the A Side is too much.

Review: Talc's 'De Gui Ding' is a much-deserved follow up to the duo's 2006 hit singles 'Modern Sleepover' parts 1 and 2, which lyrically detailed a failed romance between a hapless human lover and his own computer, against a futuristic yet slow disco backdrop. A listless love song for Linux laptops, it now comes repackaged with several new reworkings, as well as the much higher-energy 'De Gui Ding', filtered french house tropes and blue-note saxfunk aplenty.

Talc - "Garden Of Dance"
Man/Boy - "It's Only Perfect" (feat Girl)
Review: The mighty Talc are back! Having twisted everyone's melons in 2005 with their debut single, 'Modern Sleepover' (a favourite of DJ Spinna, Rob Da Bank, Jazzanova and Nick Luscombe) our blue-eyed soul boys return with a club friendly maxi-disco 12! 'Garden Of Dance' sees this pair of wannabe Alan Titchmarshes deliver a boogie-tinged monster for the summer. The inevitable soundtrack to a million burnt sausages continues the successful combination of hilarious lyrics and Beach Boy harmonies, whilst still maintaining a uniquely British feel. On the flip, Talc present their alter ego. The wonderfully monikered Man/Boy featuring Girl sees the gents (complete with lady of course) let loose with some rather special disco/house music. Think Herbie Hancock meets Tortured Soul and you get the idea. The vocoders are back in the mix, and the beats are tougher than ever. 'It's Only Perfect' is already being hailed by Future World Funk's Russ Jones as 'One of the best house tunes in ages!'
