Review: Boca 45, (aka Scott Hendy), is the funk hop brother who has a deep love for 7'' slabs of wax and the beautiful game of football. This new release finds Boca on new Bristol label B-Block Records, in conjunction with Unique in Europe and North America, Jet Set in Japan and Invada Records in Australia. Past releases have included his excellently received debut 'Pitch Sounds' on Manchester's Grand Central, plus a slew of essential tracks on Hombre, Illicit, Superslick Stereo Sounds and High Noon Records. He also records with Andy Smith (Portishead tour DJ) as Dynamo Productions.

Review: Prolific producer Diesler goes up first on a double sided release on the Social Beats label flipped by Laura Vane & The Vipertones. Diesler gives us a low slung but funky shaker assisted by Dutch vocalist Stee Downes, while ''Roof Off'' from Laura is an urgent drum and saxophone heavy funk belter.

Review: Since the first two 7" releases of J Rawl's The Liquid Crystal Project "Tribute To Dilla" & "Tribute To Troy" are out in the world, we are proud to announce the first 12" ready to follow up the success of the Spread The Message series on turntable jazz. This single is a real rap/hiphop release produced by the cologne based DJ & Producer DJ Adlib from the ITF Vice World DJ Champs Noisy Stylus featuring the almighty Med (aka Medaphoar) from the infamous Stones Throw camp from Oxnard, California. Adlib is one of the few DJs touring & supporting Ben on his mission throughout Europe. After releasing his first EP on Danny Breaks Alphabet Zoo label, we're happy to contribute to Adlib's rising. He produced the beat and Med spit his heat over that bouncing instrumental. Med released his debut LP "Push Comes To Shove" last year and it features productions from his fellows Madlib, J Dilla, Just Blaze & Oh No. Med is known for his straight but relaxed style and his flow is already known by many cats in the game. His verses are featured as well by the likes of J Dilla on his new album "The Shining" and "Exile" on his LP - just to name some other recent collaborations with rap goal getters. "Spread The Message" is the lead 12" single to the upcoming CD/LP compilation out on TTJ early 2007. For the flipside Adlib remixed the track and gave it a complete new outfit. Different vibe & beat but same rhymes make this version a real remix. So choose your favourite or play both, that's what we reckon anyway! As a bonus, Adlib gave the world another beat to taste his style.

Review: Berlin-based soul crew The Frank Popp Ensemble recorded their Out Of Town album in a flash of inspiration at the start of 2022, but the roots of the project lie in those weird lockdown times when Popp connected with a young vocalist called Jesper Munk. The pairing of Popp's breezy soul-pop and Munk's easy-on-the-ear croon is a match made in heaven, and the 'Out Of Town' single itself has a classic feel which just seems right on a 7". Unique have done the right thing and pressed it up with 'Torn Up' on the flip, dinked the centre hole and sent it out in the direction of juke joints the world over.

Review: Two tracks off the legendary 1993 tape-only release 'The Rhyme Wrecka' EP by Manchester hip-hop Group Freakin' Inglish, featuring Red Venom, on vinyl for the first time. This is a raucous Britcore gemstone, and an important window into a style that should be known to many more hip-hop enjoyers than most mainstream vernacular histories have allowed thus far. Seguing through the interweaving, but toothy, flows of Venom, alongside crewmates Eric-T and Yozzer, using the half-American accents informed by the predominance of gangsta rap at the time, this is still a killer record with a distinctly Northern - Salford to be precise - sound. 'Wrecka' is an apt description indeed.

Review: Glen Anthony Henry is the soul singer from LA., California. He is a passionate defender of the Afro-American movement. He started singing and studying the works of the old masters of soul and collaborated with Erykah Badu. "Hope" is produced by Carlo Coupé (the man behind the Sweet Vandals and Funkorama Records) in Madrid, Spain.

Review: At the end of last year, Malente released "Like A Freek", the first 12" from his forthcoming 3rd album "How Can You Still Stand To Stand Still", which is due to be released 11th August on Unique Records. "Like A Freek" stayed for seven weeks in the top ten of the german club charts (DCC) and has been playlisted by Turntablerocker, Drummatic Twins, Boris Dlugosch, Daniel Taylor, Groove Rebels, Disco Boys, Sgt. Rock, Skeewiff and DJ Friendly to name just a few. Back with 3 deck-friendly remixes on his second single from his new album entitled "For The Revolution". The A-side features a stunning remix by Mason from the Netherlands, who releases on Middle Of The Road Records - his "Exceeder" tune has just been licensed and put out by Great Stuff, Germany's leading electro label. His version is a great bastard between electro and stompin' funkbreaks - no doubt a bomb on the dancefloor. On the flip you'll find a dirty and raw oldschool breaks mix by Smoove (Acid Jazz/ Wack!) and last but not least a brilliant organic groover from DJ Regal (Ex-Wiseguys/Bronx Dogs), who adds some revolution chanting to his more dubby joint. Review: In 2008, German label Unique asked crate-digging party starters Soulinus and Pun to put together the first volume in their "This is DJs Choice" compilation series. Only one further instalment - with tracks selected by Keb Darge and Lucinda Slim - appeared before the series was shelved. Happily, Unique has decided to re-launch it, with Marc Hype and DJ Suspect in charge of the track list. They've done a bang up job, all told, offering up a sizzling, 16-track selection that giddily sprints between steel band reggae (Hollie Cook), soul-jazz (Melvin Sparks), heavy funk (Smith & The Honey Badgers, Osaka Monoaurail), boogie (Skyy), Afro-latin heaviness (Marc Gregor), stomping Northern Soul (Jack Hammer) and head-nodding hip-hop (Sons Of Time, Benjamin & The Dreamdancers).

Review: Regal has finally returned to the melting pot, with his debut solo album "Loop Dreams". Recorded at Regal's then ad-hoc home studio (now in limbo), over an intense four month period in 2006, "Loop Dreams" is a little gem from the one-time original founding member of both The Wiseguys (Wall Of Sound) and Bronx Dogs (Heavenly/Marble Bar), two of the UK's most revered underground acts of the nineties.

Review: In the four long years since 2018's Monument of the End, the world has become a far more worrying, complex place, or at least our awareness of this nature has become commonplace. Jord can't seem to shake the weight of the smothering modern day, and it's all the more visceral and epic for it. With ensuing blast beats, technical fluidity and a focus on the cosmic and intangible over more traditional death-oriented topics, this fourth full-length from Swedish tech-death maestros, Soreption, arrives with the expanded vision of a group who continue to carve out a subtle mystique by only speaking when they have something vital and powerful to say. 'Jord' just might be their most integral, nuanced and vital statement yet.

Review: And so begins a new series from Laura Vane where she explains what she can and can't move. After mountains comes lorries (with a killer buildings b-side) and after that she's going to release a picture disc explaining how she can't move those massive barrels of beer pubs use. Not really. In fact she can move a whole dancefloor with her stirring soulful tones. If you're into Alice Russell (or any Tru Thoughts output for that matter) then this double funk-up will move your jacksey from here to next week. "110%" on the B is equally as wiggle worthy.

Review: The fifth chapter from "The New Testament of Funk" series includes no less than 8 unreleased tracks and 3 titles which have previously just been available on limited vinyl pressings!

Review: This Is DJ's Choice, Vol. 4 is another showcase of diverse funk sounds from various artists that blend genres and styles into something packed with potency. The whole thing is well programmed so that is plays out like a set, too, with everything from soulful melodies to infectious beats. The album spans funk, jazz, reggae, and electronic music that is perfect for parties or playlist additions alike. The Bamboos's 'Get In The Scene' (feat Ohmega Watts) is a nice lithe sound, The Supersonics brings some big brass energy on 'The Chosen One' and Sharon Jackson & The Soul Destroyers keep it raw with 'Fakin' It'.
