Nothing Makes Sense (5:59)
Earth & Mars (5:39)
Back On Days (5:11)
Vitalogy (4:57)
Review: Previously spotted flexing his deep dark wares on Med School and Hospital, Kent craftsman Anile is now officially part of Lenzman's North Quarter collective. And he fits right in with his own sound and his own take on the currently unstoppable TNQ movement. Heavier and more spacebound than previous releases on the label; across the EP we're flatted by the rolling "Nothing Makes Sense", we're rocketed around the solar system on the already massive "Earth & Mars" and brought back down to earth with more soulful, piano laced charms of "Back On Days" before "Vitalogy" closes this stunning clear vinyl story with a creeping sombre twist. As with all TNQ releases; this pushes some serious buttons.

Product Of The Streets (instrumental) (4:10)
Review: The dream team Dogger & Mindstate return to TNQ wax with this hearty package of soulful, hip-hop-influenced D&B flavours that was originally unleashed digitally last summer. Representing both their pathways into this music, from north to south, the duo recruit the likes of London's Verbz and Manchester's Sleazy F Baby to vocal and narrate their delicate, subtle but ultimately heavyweight rhythms. From the deep jazz of 'Different Roads' to the symphonic dynamics of 'From The Concrete', this is one of the hardest hitting and emotional records Dogger and Mindstate have made so far.

Review: Finally, The North Quarter upgrade Echo Brown's sublime debut EP for the label to wax status. Featuring four of the original five tracks, here we find the rising US artist linking up with Manchester's KinKai for the woozy opener 'Affirmations' before heading into a dream-like state as 'So Good' rolls with hazy neo-soul, 'Love Won't Do' takes us deep down SpectraSoul flavoured rabbit holes and 'Phenomena' brings us to a gully halt with its UK style shuffly drums and gritty, rasping bassline. There's no struggles to hear what's good here.

Baby Blue (feat Lenzman) (4:57)
Review: Lenzman's North Quarter hits its stride once again with another superb collection from one of the scene's most tireless, unsung heroes. This time it's FD who takes the reigns with four outstanding pieces of soul: "Always Something" features one of the best MCs in the game - Fox. Flowing between his sweet bars and deep singing style, it's one of Fox's most delicately laid down tracks to date (which is saying something) Elsewhere "Ice Cream" hits on the up-notes with a loose drum energy, fresh energy and another scorching vocal, "This Is Now" is a much slinkier, bass-licked dancefloor swinger while "Baby Blue" blasts us off into the ether with dreamy vocal textures and warm-but-warped synths. Stunning and timeless.

Review: Another week, another red hot slice of funky disco action from the good people at Gamm. Japanese re-editer Dai San is the man behind this second offering of cuts and his credentials as a former b-boy really shine through. First out of the blocks is the chunky funk and twanging bass riffs of Roy Ayres 'Still Good,' which will have you in knots on the floor, then 'Body Moves' is a clatter of Latin percussion, bird calls and samba rhythms that brims with vitality. 'People To People' closes down on a more smooth and lush vibe with big trumpets bring joy to the slick rhythm section and natty jazz keys.

The Feeling (feat KinKai) (4:21)
Lie To You (feat Akemi Fox) (4:13)
Review: Freddie Dixon returns to The North Quarter with his first full release since last year's TNQ album Better Days. Five tracks deep, each one reps his many nuanced shades. "The Creatures From Planet 9" kicks us off on a dark pranged out roll while "Dedication" follows the same momentum but brings a little soulful twang to the mix and "This Is Not Science" bumps and bruises us with badboy science. On the lighter, more soulful side of FD, "The Feeling" sees TNQ regular KinKai reflect on the other side's green grass over dreamy feels while "Lie To You" is all about the dusky sombre tones of Akemi Fox and more of FD's stunning drums. Light up your nights.

Shawn Kemp (4:32)
Mama Told Me (feat Hella) (3:55)
Double Drizzle (4:35)
Sails (4:04)
Review: Lenzman's North Quarter label continues to represent for a particular strain of crisp, moody but broadly appealing D&B, and they're welcoming back London-based Freddie Dixon for another EP mere months after the collab 12" with Satl. There's loads to catch a hold of on this record, not least the rabble-rousing 'Mama Told Me' featuring Hella spitting bars over a moody slice of neuro. 'Shawn Kemp' is a taut workout which teases peaks and troughs of intensity around a razor sharp lead line, while 'Double Drizzle' gets a little wobbly in the upper mids for a peak-time mid-set roller. 'Sails' rounds things off on a sentimental tip, letting FD's melodic instincts take the reins with stunning results.

Review: The North Quarter locks in another superbly stylish EP of functional but characterful drum & bass rhythms here. This one comes from LIN000 and features bunch of self titled tracks. The first is a supper, with fluid bass and low end oscillations. The second is more roomy and cancerous. It operates in an underwater world of bendy bass and crisp hits, then the flip side opens with a more raw, textural and fixing mix of synths and clacking hits before the closer pairs a high speed breakbeat with synths that twist and turn at their own speed.

Bayview (feat Submorphics) (5:22)
Review: Back in the autumn, sometime Metalheadz regular Lenzman launched his own label, The North Quarter. Here he returns for a second outing, bringing with him a quartet of tasty tracks. IAMDDB lends a hand on the sweet, skittish and soulful opener "In My Mind" - all fizzing D&B breakbeats, tumbling piano lines and evocative vocals - before soul man Steo unfurls a heartfelt vocal on the similarly breezy "Tender Love". On the flip, you'll find the moody, urban-sounding D&B-rap roller "Park Hill" (which may or may not be a tribute to the infamously bleak Sheffield housing estate of the same name), and the jazzy D&B warmth of Subphonics' collaboration "Bayview".

Review: Lenzman's last project on The North Quarter was four years ago, so his return to the label is welcome indeed. On this super double 12" which was written over the course of three months, the artist tackles the emotions and challenges of a total change of rhythm and routine. Having overcome a void of inspiration he excels here with a mix of old recordings and found sounds, collaborative tunes and fresh new bespoke piano recordings. It is a warm, rolling album full of soul, with hip hop and drum & bass coming together in perfect harmony.

Lenzman - "Don't Let Go" (feat Redeyes) (6:02)
Review: Having launched his new label The North Quarter late September with a rampant 10 track EP, Lenzman ensures the vinyl lovers are appeased with four of the strongest cuts on wax. Each cut shudders with the soul weight you'd expect from the dapper Dutchman: "African Dream" is all twinkles and shivers, "Grateful" slaps and tickles with some light jazz touches and DRS's distinct sermonisms while "Don't Go" is a total whirlwind of emotion with it evocative vocal sample and turbo drums. Naturally his unavoidable summer smashing remix of Children Of Zeus has also been included too. He really couldn't have squeezed more gold onto this 12" if he tried!

Redeyes - "Untitled Soul" (4:10)
FD - "Top2Bottom VIP" (6:27)
Review: The North Quarter label serves up nine exclusive tracks on this superb double LP which is the culmination of many years friendship of Lenzman & Dan Stezo. The former lays down the seamless flow while the latter delivers perfectly introspective lyrics in a heart aching falsetto and all the tunes are solely from The Northern Quarter associates. The liquid drum & bass grooves are soulful and soaring, with plaintive pianos draped over the silky sequences. It's a warm and emotive listen for days at home as well as once dance floors open up again. Favourites include Zero T & Unitsouled's frictionless 'Slightest Moment' and FD's deep diving closer 'Top2Bottom VIP.'

With a variety of collabs behind them over the years, the Headz alumni level up with four understated jams that range from the shimmering jazzy Creative Source style 'Wet Like Water' to the more dancefloor focused, subby rumbler 'Busters' (which wouldn't have gone amiss on Soul:r back in the day) Already massive tracks since their release digitally last year, this new vinyl outing adds a whole new lease of life. Review: 31 Records, CIA, Subtitles... This is the calibre of label Myth is dealing with here. Now add The North Quarter as the Truth members continues to bulldozer 2020 with his rattling, subby bubblers. Four cuts in total, each one as system-primed and spacious as the next, Myth captures the essence of dnb jungle in all directions; the Headzian paranoid chimes and neck-snap step of 'Horror', the echoes of Soulr on 'One Note Funk', the Digital and Spirit-ready dubby bash-about 'Long Time' and the loose jazzy Reinforced roominess and trippy warps of '3rd Time Lucky'. Longtime loving this.

Review: Ol' Redeyes is back! Usually spotted fraternising and flexing on his own Vandal imprint, here Lenzman invites him to the North Quarter for the first artist-signed EP... and he doesn't disappoint! Once again it's an extended affair as the Toulouse talent weaves and glides us through the hip-hop/D&B conscious. From the smoky Cali-style "100 Porsches To The Stars" to the glistening strings and unhurried golden rolls of "We Were Kings" by way of overwhelmingly soulful "Keep On". Another genuine gem from Leiden.

Review: Earlier in his career, SATL seemed to have a new record out every week, mostly via Fokuz Recordings. He's a little less prolific these days, though as this first outing on The North Quarter proves his quality threshold remains impressively high. He starts in smooth and dreamy fashion via Steo collaboration "All My life" - all twinkling keys, simmering strings, skittish breaks and soulful vocals - before offering up a dustier and even more poignant diversion in the shape of rich liquid roller "Supposed To Be". On B-side opener "Drifted" he peppers a heavy stepping beat with late night techno stabs, while closing cut "Coming Back" is another slick, dewy-eyed chunk of soulful D&B bliss.

Review: Lucid Dreams EP is a new Ep from drum & bass artist Satl. He hails from Poland and here pushes himself out of his usual confront zone by exploring a range of dub techno influences on Amsterdam boutique label The North Quarter. The six tracks are all brooding and tense with emotion but are also hugely elegant, with slippery rhythms, dubbed out caverns and watery droplets bring detail. It's heady music but with a powerful low end that will also do damage in clubs. "This EP to me is an exploration of a sound that I've loved for some time, but never really felt confident enough to attempt," he says, surely now happy that he has in fact mastered the style.

Expressing his widest range and the warmest shades of his palette, the San Francisco vibe flexor delivers his finest; the yearning gutsy soul of "Don't Be So Cold", the heads-down sultry ripples of "Whatchudo", the swaggering hip-hop swing of "Hot Ish", the whirling almost psychedelic textures to the organs and Steo's stunning vocals on "Weather It Out" and the all-out soul belts of "Can't Get Over You". Five slices of genuine soulful drum & bass gold; Lenzman knows what he's up to with The Norther Quarter.

He hits the sweet spot instantly with 'Let It Shine', a Creative Source style dreamer with lavish vocals from Veda Black. It's followed by three more dreamboats... 'Guided' licks and slaps with a dubby warmth that would be easy to describe as Calibre with more strings, 'Live With The Pain' fuses serious bars from Detroit's Phat Kat and the stunning soul of Ireland's Steo while 'Infinite Void' brings home the disco bacon on a big old Amen tray. Think Blame or Artificial Intelligence. Stunning. Shine on.

Review: It may have taken 15 years, but Michigan bass-head Greg "Submorphics" Axelrad has finally offered up a debut album. He teases us in with a deep, string-laden, scene-setting intro smothered in heady spoken word samples, before jazzily skipping towards the dancefloor via drifting vocals, rich bass, sustained organ chords and smooth liquid D&B rhythms of "Luminosity". He continues in a similarly dreamy, life-affirming fashion throughout, occasionally delivering something a little more soulful (see the superb "Memories Of You" and Big Brooklyn Red hook-up "Daydreaming"), hip-hop influenced (the colourful "The Prize/Golden Roots" with rapper TRAC) or slow and seductive ("Morning Alarms/Waverley Place"). Arguably best of all though is "Find A Reason", a seductively soulful broken beat number that's every bit as good as anything from West London.

Review: Submorphics deals in a unique sound: lo-fi drum n' bass. Yes, what was once reserved for a new style house can definitely be abstracted into other genres, contrary to what the less open-minded among us would have you believe. 'Verona Highway' is just that: working in old soulful house samples and self-recorded highpassed radio synths, the Netherlands-based artist works in a serene palette of sounds to convey a drum n' bassy idea of a late night Detroit to Chicago road trip aesthetic.

Review: The second instalment of New Zealander Tokyo Prose's surprise album drop on Lenzman's The North Quarter; once again it's another sublime, dynamic soul out whittled down to perfection. The long demanded dub "Brilliant Corners" takes the lead with some stunningly arranged and cascading ivories while "Runaway" takes us deeper into the spacier corners of Tokyo Prose's palette with faraway vocals from KSR. Flip for the biggest vocal cut on the 12" as Steo brings his signature honeyed dulcet soul with an almost gospel level of urgency on "Lift You Up" before "Back To You" closes with more of TP's distinctive fluttering piano work. Gracefully does it.

Review: Lenzman's North Quarter imprint never ceases to delight or surprise... Without any warning or notice, they've suddenly dropped Tokyo Prose's first release in over two years. And it's a work of full length album beauty. First up, part one. Comprising some of the New Zealander's most ID'd dubs in years, it's a supreme collection to kick off the album with; the rising piano cadence of "Innate Motion", the Intalexual technoid stepper "Tremble", the delicate piano massaging "Trick Of The Light" and the smoke-stacked jazzy halftime headnodder "Gusts". And this isn't even half of it yet.

Review: It's raining breaks! A hailstorm of jungle and drum n' bass has hit our shelves, and Tokyo Prose's 'Twelve Tones' is one of many of its new wax droplets to settle onto our turntables. Mr. Prose is a newer alias of New Zealand-based producer Sam Reed, whose brand of liquid is minimal yet impactful. Five new cuts span the more sublime and jazzier piano ends of liquid; there's even dubby collabs with fellow artists FD ('Ultra Travolta') and Steo in there, with a remix from Satl ('Lift You Up'). At those vocals, we're uplifted indeed!

Echo Brown - "Deep Thinker" (5:36)
Review: The North Quarter has always done a fine job of offering up widescreen drum & bass sounds that are often heavy on soul and based silky grooves. Their second State of Mind compilation is another caesura in point as it draws together four sides of fresh riddims from plenty of contemporary talents. Alexx A-Game opens up in funky fashion as remixed by Satl, then the good time grooves carry on with Lenzman & Redeyes's 'Hold Tight Girl.' Further highlights come from the jazzy depths of Channell's 'Intrigue' and Note's fathom-deep 'Affirmative Action.'

Review: ***B-STOCK: Creasing to corner of outer sleeve but otherwise in excellent condition***

2020 has been a toilet for us all but the sounds of Zero T on labels like Sofa Sound and Metalheadz has been a much needed silver lining. Upping his consistency even more than usual, every release is pure gold... Especially this new one on Lenzman's The North Quarter. "Lonely Night" sets the tone as he remixes Mango & Mathman with soulful style before linking up with old friend Steo for the piano-tickling "Moments Fade". Meanwhile on the B things get much darker and dancefloor-focused; "I Want More" is Zero T is total gully mode while "Clash" is the dubby roller of the set. All flavours, all vibes, one essential 12".

Review: Finally... The vinyl has landed! Released way back in the summer digitally, Lenzman's The North Quarter are now able to drop the 12" of Zero T's dark and sleazy 'Off Broadway' EP. Focusing on those tense and spacious jazzy samples that characterised drum & bass in the mid-90s (think Peshay, think Photek), tracks like 'Drama', 'Fortune Green' and 'Off Broadway' hit with that timeless, gritty, burnt soul vibe while cuts like 'This Condition' and KILLSWSH's remix of 'She Moves' flex with more of a contemporary vibe. All of them rock and sound so much better for being on wax.

Review: Zero T's 4th album is a conceptual Drum n Bass marriage with legendary high-tech pianist ONJ, who has been on the cutting edge of music equipment for over 20 years. The 2 are returning once again for another release on The North Quarter, expanding the pair's 2 track EP 'Everyday Struggles' into a full-length project. Zero T pulls once again from Jazz influences, paired with his bright and expansive breakbeats. The amen breaks on tracks like 'Twenty Three' and 'Some Type of Way' meld with the jazz piano and saxophone riffs perfectly, broken up by lo-fi interludes, even a lounge piano portion on side D with 'Expendable'. Kilburn is an authentically British union of two polar opposite genres, and yet it just works so well. It's got to be heard to be believed.
