The Spelling (6:33)
The Spelling (Zadig remix) (6:57)
Gate (5:24)
Gate (Oscar Mulero remix) (5:24)
Review: Simon Coup's Birth Of Frequency project has gained significant traction since its beginnings back in 2012, and the artist has successfully established his own sound and vision of techno, one that keeps a foot in the minimal game and the other in the harder end of the spectrum. Here, he comes through rocking and with absolutely no nonsense for Oscar Mulero's Pole Recordings, and we're thrown headfirst into into the tenebrous waves of "The Spelling", a tune that's twisted up further into oblivion thanks to the capable hands of Zadig - the latter makes for a true-school techno bruiser. Flip to the B-side and "Gate" offers a harsh, banging set of kick drums that bounce off the corners of sketchy, 3D-like sonics, leaving Oscar Mulero to throw down a deeper, more leftfield version of the tune as a final send-off into the ether...

Techno
Claudio Prc - "Atik"
Woo York - "Farewell Old Friend"
Christian Wunsch - "Beta V 0 5"
Tripeo - "Zebog"
Review: To complement the release of the second edition of Unknown Landscapes, Polegroup once again compile four of the previously unreleased contributions for a must have 12" sampler. With Christian Wunsch at the controls, the mix itself is of course a must have for anyone who classes themselves a fan of modern techno. Equally any techno selectors out there that prefer the vinyl format will want to indulge in the four productions here from Woo York, Tripeo, Claudio PRC and Wunsch himself. Claudio PRC opens proceedings with the stripped back and spacious warehouse boom of "Atik" which contrasts nicely with the brighter tones of "Farewell Old Friend" from Woo York. "Beta 0.5" from Wunsch is scratchy, atmospheric techno at its best and Darko Esser is on fine form with the heavenly acid flutter of Tripeo cut "Zebog".

DVS1 - "Strobe"
Kwartz - "Hate"
Reeko - "Enlightenment Process"
Adam X - "Meridien Arc"
Review: As part of Oscar Mulero's Unknown Landscapes mix CD his label Pole Group has done the right thing and released the first of several various artist samplers. This first body of music is opened by the rusty pings of DVS1's "Strobe", while up and coming Spanish techno producer, Kwartz, earns his Pole Group stripes with a deep and blipping "Hate". Long-time label cohort Reeko provides the elongated mind trip that is "Enlightenment Process", and the last spot is of course reserved for industrial demigod Adam X who doesn't falter with the voltage charged "Meridien Arc".

Review: Exium continue to strengthen their working relationship with Pole Recordings, gracing Oscar Mulero's label with A Sensible Alternative To Emotion, their second studio album. Having spent over a decade refining their own vision of hard edged techno, Exium use this platform of a second album to expand on their established sound, at times easing down the tempos and intensity for a more balanced listen across the 10 tracks. Productions such as the granite heavy "Massless Particle" or tunnelling abstraction of "Absolute Magnitude" demonstrate this is no drastic departure from the Exium sound but there's an equal consideration for melodic arrangements and more subdued moments.

Review: Exium continues his strong run of releases. As this four-tracker so ably demonstrates, what's really impressive about the Spanish producer is his ability to integrate existing tropes with his own sound. On "Monopoles", this approach sees him fuse a Function-style linear pulse with a repetitive vocal sample, while "Magnetic Flux" goes further and deeper into this direction, a dank, tunneling rhythm led by tonal bleeps and blips. On the title track, he changes direction again, with the kind of drones that one would associate with Hospital Productions fused with shaking percussion, while "Early Life" brings the release to a close to the sound of Mills-inspired, panel-beating drums.

Total Absence
Paranoia
Ground State
Uncertainty
Review: Lewis Fautzi is a Portuguese techno mainstay who now heads back to a home label PoleGroup for four more cuts of high pressure dance floor dynamite. He opens his account with the dense and dusty sounds of ''Total Absence' which his powered by slamming drums and has all manner of howling winds blowing by that add to the intensity of sound. 'Paranoia' sounds like just that as it layers up unsettling pads and walls of brushed metal drums that roll on like a behemoth. 'Ground State' brings pinging kicks and bass to the fore as fizzing static buzzes across the whole arrangement and 'Uncertainty' closes out a gritty EP of stripped back and menacing techno with a subtle hint of trance-inducing melody.

Review: In accordance to the original concept of Polegroup founder Oscar Mulero, the latest volume in the label's ongoing Unknown Landscapes mix series offers up an "atmospheric and distinctive" journey through previously unheard music, this time mixed by label regular Lewis Fautzi. Beginning with the dark, intense and slowly creeping intensity of Christinne's "3562", Fautzi brilliantly joins the dots between clandestine, mind-altering dancefloor techno, buzzing rhythmic workouts, hypnotic psychedelic soundscapes, distorted drum jams, wild acid tracks and industrial strength body music, before concluding with arguably the most gripping and mind-altering cut of all: Adriana Lopez's pitch-black "In Mist".

Review: Pole Group founder Oscar Mulero launched the Unknown Landscapes series back in 2013, intending it to be a vehicle for DJ/producers to create atmospheric and distinctive mixes solely featuring previously unreleased tracks. For volume five, he's handed over the reigns to Argentine dark techno stalwart Jonas Kopp, who does a terrific job in squeezing 22 tracks into one moody, occasionally chilling and frequently intense CD-length journey. While there are subtle nods towards otherworldly electro, IDM and ambient, the majority of the cuts, which come from both Pole regulars and fresh signings, tend towards the thrusting, metallic and mind-altering end of the techno spectrum.

Cave (Tommy Four Seven remix)
Review: Arguably one of Spain's most prolific techno talents, Oscar Mulero returns to the super label PoleGroup with the Electric Storm EP. The title track combines Mulero's trademark throb and reverb-heavy ambience with powerful drums, while "Cave" takes things in an even darker direction, with brittle percussion resonating against reverb-heavy ambience. The remixes aren't too shoddy either; Our Circula Sound boss Sigha delivers a remix of the title track with some prickly yet powerful synth blips, and Tommy Four Seven coats "Cave" with an industrial fuzz and into a broken techno nightmare which will destroy any dancefloor.

In A Silent Way
Review: Spanish hard techno don Oscar Mulero returns from showing the kids how it's done at Bloc Festival with this typically no-nonsense outing for Pole Recordings. This is classic Mulero; with "Like A Wolf" taking up the entire A Side with a pulsating techno thump, around which swirls a buzzing hive of mechanical chords and brooding atmospherics. Flip over for the dense layering of "Horses"- this one is brilliantly dark and relentless - while the "In A Silent Way" rounds off the release with spine tingling synth work sitting above the muffled roar of the bass drum.

Review: Spanish techno titan Oscar Mulero likes to keep himself busy, with the imminent arrival of Muscle & Mind offering fans of his murky and clandestine sound a fourth album in as many years. Dualistic Concept was designed as a partner release for that set, and includes all new versions of album tracks. Mulero handles the A-side, dropping edits and reworks of "Dualistic Concept" (a cowbell-laden romp through ghostly techno territory) and "Mechanical Function" (dark, hypnotic, industrial techno-funk). A couple of friends help him out on the flip, with SHXCXCHCXSH providing a sludgy, crackling - but strangely picturesque - rub of "Muscle & Mind", before Stanislav Tolkachev gets all tribal and intense on his dystopian interpretation of "Mentally Induced Action".

Review: Spanish techno stalwart Oscar Mulero trailed this fourth album in as many years with Dualistic Concept, a set of typically dark, hypnotic and ghostly remixes. That can be found on the second disc, and ties in neatly with the robust, forthright and atmospheric sound of the album itself. Muscle & Mind has moments of beauty, of course - see the blissful ambience of "Mental Causation" and enveloping chords and found sounds of "Unconscious" - but for the most part it's concerned with the power of rhythm. Few are better at wringing maximum intensity from loop-heavy jams, and Mulero's love of dusty white noise, trippy melodies and skittering percussion guarantees variety in the grooves throughout.

Review: Spanish techno titan Oscar Mulero is in blistering form here on Polegroup. Theer is real drama and intensity in his tracks that comes from not only the heavy kicks and all-consuming bass, but twisted, turbulent synths that are stretched in all directions. Industrial textures help fry your brain cells, too, all while the grooves drag you onwards into an ever darker night. For our money, 'Gradiente Voltaje' is the standout here with is catering kicks, coarse open hi hats and barrelling dark wave bass. As soon as clubs return, this is the sort of heavy techno tackle we all want to be hearing.

Conveying themes of flow states, fate and apocalypse, this is a surreal and deathly LP sure to gast listeners as much as it energizes them. Ranging from hard techno soundwalls to fishbony spacers, our faves have to be some of the ones in the latter camp; particularly 'Dos Esqueletos'.

Review: Oscar Mulero has become one of the faces of techno thru many years of hard work and through the growth of a strong discography. With a DJing career now spanning over 35 years, Oscar has thrived regardless of the popularity rise and fall of the techno genre. His Pole Recordings label has been a beacon of light through the tougher times and is shining brighter than ever now. The Poisonality EP is his newest 12". 'Aroma De Falso Amo' is a foreboding builder that offers a unique rhythm and plenty of tension while the title track is a tribal groover like the kinds he is so well known for composing. Fans of Birmingham techno should especially like 'Iris Malicioso' which reminds us of Neil Landstrumm and Regis styled techno. 'Dos Pequenos Zorros' is a relentless pounder that should do damage by any DJ having the opportunity to melt faces off dancers faces. Oscar Mulero gives us four very strong techno tracks on this one EP.
