Abram & Nestor - "Four Minutes Of Funk" (4:02)
Nestor Alvarez - "El Trombonista" (2:50)
Review: Neil Anderson's unashamedly revivalist Original Gravity label is back once again - when are they not dropping heat, frankly? - with more funk goodness. This time out it is two more massive slices of tasty Latin funk getting served up. The first is Abram & Nestor's 'Four Minutes Of Funk' which is indeed four minutes of funk that will unite dancefloors from here to eternity with its big organ magic. Nestor Alvarez' 'El Trombonista' is as you might guess denied by its big trombone and also boasts some great horn work. These are two steamy and sizzling cuts that prove irresistible.

Review: Neil Anderson's Original Gravity loves to look back and revive forgotten classics and that is what it does again here with a quick reissue of something it dropped back in March. This time out it is two more massive slices of tasty Latin funk getting served up. Tune Up Ska (3:16)
Time Is Ska Tight (Aternative take) (3:53)
Review: While this record looks and sounds vintage - like the majority of Original Gravity's output - it is in fact a revivalist, turn-of-the-60s style ska production from Welwyn Garden City's Neil Anderson. A-side 'Tune Up Ska' is particularly potent, with Anderson and his studio musicians serving up a classic ska groove (think walking bass, up-tempo rhythm and blues drums and tight horn blasts), onto which a variety of fuzzy saxophone and organ solos are layered. Clubs may not be open right now, but when they do, we can see it lighting up ska-loving crowds. Over on the flip, Anderson and company turn their attention (sorry) to Booker T & The MG's cut 'Time is Tight', reinventing it as a boisterous, horn-heavy affair featuring some superb trumpet solos.

Kinky Afro Cuban
Review: Like all material released on Original Gravity, this tidy two-tracker from percussionist/band-leader Nestor Alvarezn and producer Neil Anderson sounds like it could have been recorded decades ago but is in fact brand new. It first appeared earlier in the year and has now been granted a second pressing, this time on coloured vinyl. A-side 'Midnight in Havana' is a heavyweight Afro-Cuban treat, with roaring horn lines and energetic organ lines leaping above a weighty, low-slung groove piled high with Latin percussion. The pair get cheeky on the flip, re-imagining Happy Mondays' classic 'Kinky Afro' in an easy listening salsa style, complete with bi-lingual lead vocals and sweltering trumpet solos.

Plata O Plomo (5:08)
Reality For Nuthin' (3:58)
Review: Original Gravity's very own identity-invention Nestor Alvarez returns with yet another two new and hot Latin funk productions. 'Plata O Plomo' takes its namesake from an old Spanish adage, literally translating to English to mean "silver or lead", implying that the recipient of the phrase must either accept a bribe or lose their life. In keeping with this heavy-handed theme, the track is punchy and surface-tense as a bullet yet to exit the barrel. Meanwhile, 'Reality For Nuttin' gets at an equally nihilistic and existential theme, all while finding joy in the conundrum of life with huge rhythm guitars and pop-out pianos and brasses.

Kinky Afro Cuban (4:51)
Review: Nestor Alvarez's Midnight in Havana on Original Gravity delivers an electrifying Afro-Cuban instrumental jam that transports listeners to the vibrant streets of Havana. With a mesmerising flute lead and dynamic jam sessions, the track exudes a captivating energy that feels like a theme song for the city's bustling nightlife. The infusion of Cuban soul adds depth and authenticity to the music, immersing listeners in its rich cultural heritage. On the B-side, Alvarez offers a creative cover version of the Happy Mondays' 'Kinky Afro,' reimagined with a Cuban twist. The fusion of Afro-Cuban rhythms and the iconic melody of the original song results in a fresh and exciting interpretation that showcases Alvarez's versatility as a musician. Fans of Latin and Cuban dance music are sure to eat this up.

Spoonful (part 2) (4:24)
Review: Original Gravity have been carrying Curtis Baker and the Bravehearts for the past few years, slipping out a clutch of his hot and heavy blues tunes and covers. On this latest single, he's tackling the mighty 'Spoonful', originally written by Willie Dixon and first made famous by Etta James, Howlin' Wolf and eventually Cream. Baker more than does the track justice, hitting a note somewhere close to The Doors' groovy kind of psychedelia, locking in so hard it has to stretch over both sides of the 7".

Review: Original Gravity serve up yet two more contemporary soul tracks; sides A and B on this latest 7" are shared by Curtis Baker & The Bravehearts and Floyd James & The GTs respectively. The A's 'By Hook Or By Crook' recounts the all-to-relatable feeling of stopping at nothing to get what one wants, while 'The Switchback' ups the big beats and big halls for a roomy guit-funk come mod romp. This is the second form the many in as many months and is on the faster end of the reggae tempo scale so prepare to be swept up and skanking in no time. The lo-fi 60s reggae and early ska vibes are strong on this one as the dancing Hammond organ chords compliment Barker's effortless flow. Horn stabs and drums with infectious swagger complete the a-side 'Peace of Mind'. On the flip, The Regulators offer up a nice and laidback, deep-cut dub version with 'Jamaican beat.'

Review: Here's come another sure shot from Dave Barker, a classic reggae vocalist whose croon joins the dots with the genres connection to US soul and r&b. 'We A Fe Come Over' is an uptempo, rocksteady-esque riddim produced by Neil Anderson, featuring some joyous trombone from Michele Fortunato and The O'Gees on extra brass where it counts. Review: The Original Gravity label's Reggae Dynamite series sure is packed full of dance floor heat. This fourth volume turns up the temperature once more, starting with Dave Barker's 'Move It On Now' with spoken word mic work over a guitar laced riddim. Woodfield Rd Allstars bring plenty of big horn energy and hints of ska to their 'San Salvario Stomp' then appear again on the flip with the organ-lead sounds of mid tempo wobbler 'Norwegian Wood'. I'm A Lady (radio edit) (5:12)
Review: East St. Louis soul singer Raye Cole is on the cusp of big things, having been picked up through talent scouting competitions and drawing praise from high places. Following a debut split single with Rachel Maxann last year, she's back on Original Gravity with her own outing, a hard-stepping, raunchy funk jam which serves as the perfect vehicle for her raw, righteous voice. As well as the slightly naughty original version of 'I'm A Lady' on the A side, there's also a tastefully censored 'Radio Version' on the flip in case you need to be mindful of your audience. Whichever version you plump for, the sass in those horn stabs tells the listener all they need to know.

It is one of two new 7"s they have out right now and is limited to just 50 copies. Review: Having already delivered a multi-artist EP of Reggae Dynamite earlier in the year, nostalgia-fired producer Neil Anderson serves up a speedy sequel on his popular Original Gravity label. Toaster Melbourne Douglas kicks things off with the ska-flavoured cheeriness of 'Rudy Skanking on the Moon', before returning later in the EP with slowed-down, rocksteady style reggae fuzziness of 'Rude Boy Don't Fight'. Step On (3:41)
Meanwhile On The 15th Floor (2:42)
Review: ***B-STOCK: Slight surface mark on the record, but otherwise in excellent condition***

Original Gravity label maestro Neil Anderson loves to cover a broad array of sounds and has recently turned his hand to tunes by Oasis and Stereophonics. He here focusses on Madchester legends Happy Mondays and their superb 'Step On' under his Junior Dell & The D-Lites alias, while a Jamaican singer provides backing. It still has all the melon-twisting magic of the original but with some hefty reggae rhythms down low. On the reverse is 'Meanwhile On The 15th Floor' which is a fat-bottomed reggae instrumental original that rides on a nice 60s Kingston rocksteady vibe with a twelve-bar blues melody.

In A While Crocodile (3:27)
Review: Junior Dell & The Delights are back with a mighty fine new single that comes imbued with plenty of proper good old school ska and reggae values. It's an upbeat rhythm that will get you on your toes with its energetic horns and riffs, swaggering drums and superb vocal work. On the flip of this limited 7" is, of course, 'In A While Crocodile'. It's a continuation of the a-side with just as much swagger and energy. Both tunes are essential and mark another fine drop from this great modern day outfit.

Hold The Riddim (3:50)
Review: There's no information out there about Junior Dell & The D Lites, but Original Gravity have been working hard to bring their classic ska sound to life. 'Whole Lotta Skankin' Goin' On' is an infectious bouncer with that insistent offbeat rhythm which set monumental wheels in motion in Jamaican music. There's even a sweet organ solo to boot on this guaranteed sound clash winner. 'Hold The Riddim' is no slouch either, bringing all the passion and energy of the dance to you in short, sharp, reload-ready fashion.

De 'Im Ah Yankee? (2:48)
Review: One-man ska, rocksteady and reggae production line Neil Anderson does a good line in re-imagined cover versions, with his Original Gravity label offering up unlikely but inspired takes on such non-reggae classics as 'Don't Look Back In Anger', 'Peter Gunn' and 'Green Onions'. Now, with the assistance of toaster Junior Dell, he's turned his attention to Rebel MC - now better known as Congo Natty - and his late 80s hip-house classic 'Street Tuff'. Given that the Rebel MC version sampled a Toots and the Maytals track, turning it into a dusty, head-nodding, analogue-rich reggae jam makes perfect sonic sense. Throw in Patois-laced raps and a faithful rendition of the song's much-loved chorus and you have a smile-inducing future classic on your hands.

Orange Street Breakdown (2:43)
Review: London reggae band Junior Dell & The D-Lites are mainstays of the Original Gravity label, which really knows its stuff when it comes to old school cool. Many of their greatest tunes have all been repressed and reissued over the years and this is the next one to get its moment in the sun. 'Twenty Flight Ska' has a nice rough edge and ska-styled horns with languid rhymes up top and liquid bass down ow. On the flip is 'Orange Street Breakdown' which is even more laidback, relaxed and sunny in its disposition.

Junior Dell & The D Lites - "I'm A Man" (3:17)
Woodfield Road Allstars - "Flying Crow Feather" (2:59)
Review: Original gravity mastermind Neil Anderson creates another class 7", turning his hand to first-generation Ska for a cover of 'I'm a Man' by The Spencer Davis Group. The sound feels authentic, and the instrumental chugs along at a swinging pace - in keeping with the legendary instrumental over 50 years ago. The B-side sees a slower more chilled instrumental number under another pseudonym of Woodfield Rd Allstars (probably just Anderson again, flexing his production muscles). The guitars and brass melodies are absolutely filthy rich with depth, and the flip really steals the show. Fans of the quickly growing label have another gem in this limited 7".

Junior Dell & The D Lites - "Last Night Reggay" (2:39)
Woodfield Rd Allstars - "Last Night" (version) (2:48)
Review: London reggae band Junior Dell & The D-Lites are a clever exercise in nostalgia, being a contemporary project under the wing of modern reggae label Original Gravity, but for all intents sounding like a full-blown lost rarity from the late 1970s. Their latest of at least six new seven-inches to grace our ears in recent years, 'Last Night Reggay', is one-such midnight ditty, perfectly capturing the conflicting emotions of shame and relaxation one often experiences after a tumultuous night out. The version by Woodfield Rd. Allstars is just as boxy and spacious, and comes with an out-of-this-world synth solo.

Review: The Original Gravity label comes through once again for their main series of reggae oldies. This time they put out a limited 7" version of Fatboy Slim's megahit 'Praise You', in authentic rocksteady style, performed by Jamaican vocal group Junior Dell & The D Lites, who've been active since the 1960s. "Mi haffi praise you", gleefully intones Dell, against an impressive interpretive backdrop of jubilant brass and cabareting bubbles. The B-side procures a more curious and laid-back instrumental, Woodfield Rd Allstars' 'Cool Cool Runnings'.

Review: London reggae band Junior Dell & The D-Lites are a superb combination who do a fine line in cooking up brilliant covers of nostalgic classics. Original Gravity is their home and after a few supper drops in summer they are back once again with 'I'm A Man'. It's a big old ska number with raw horns and hard hitting vocals delivered in a passionate style that is sure to get big reactions. On the flip, as is always the way, Woodfield Road Allstars step up with a more languid and laid-back dub sound for chilled out sessions.

Prince Deadly - "Rock The Lawn" (4:16)
Review: Original Gravity welcomes Junior Dell & The D-Lites for this reggae and dub-style rework of the famous party anthem 'Jump Around.' It has big ska horns and a low-slung swagger that is topped off with some fine mic work and full patois verses as well as the main vocal cry. It's sure to indeed get people jumping up and around in all new ways. The b-side of the 45 rpm is Prince Deadly's 'Rock The Lawn' version which is more lazy and dubby, with even rawer horns. A fun 7" for sure.

The Labrats - "Boom Boom" (3:09)
Curtis Baker & The Bravehearts - "Midnight In Memphis" (3:11)
Review: More nostalgic but on-point fare from producer Neil Anderson and his Original Gravity label, this time via an ultra-limited seven-inch single featuring two fuzzy slabs of revivalist rhythm and blues. The Labrats kick things off via a righteous and occasionally raucous cover of John Lee Hooker classic 'Boom Boom', where gnarled, Chuck Berry style guitar solos and gravelly vocals rise above a tooled-up but nevertheless faithful rendition of the much-loved song. Over on the flip, Curtis Baker and the Bravehearts breeze their way through a bluesy Anderson original, the slow-motion R&B grooves, razor-sharp blues guitars and extended organ solos of 'Midnight in Memphis'.

Review: More heat here from Original Gravity with 'The Harlem Bugalu' from Luchito and Joaquin Marquez. This is a 7" that soon transports you to boogaloo paradise with its feverish Latin grocers and non-stop drum funk. The A-side is laden with spoken words, zippy percussive sounds and mad bongo bubbles with lashing of horn-led exuberance. Flip it over and you will find the slightly darker and more menacing energy of Joaquin Marque's 'Mala Mania'. Get your shake on and drop this one this summer for swift dancefloor explosions.

Review: London-based funk-mongers Original Gravity serve up some serious Latin heat from the mighty Luchito and Nestor Alvarez. Both artists were last on the label earlier this year for the Latin Fever Vol. 2 single, and now they're back with more life-affirming bursts of funk. Luchito takes up the A side with two tracks - 'Broasted Or Toasted' is a cool-as-you-like bit of jazzy beatdown with some sweet flute, while 'Hey Guajira Baby' is a singalong anthem rendered in the sweetest salsa tones. Alvarez is on the flip with the pattering bongo magic of 'Bang The Bongo Side' and the heavy groove of 'Lupita', which sounds like it's packed with deadly breaks for those who still like a little crate digging.

Review: Original Gravity return with another pair of tunes to elevate your soul. This time it is Luchito and Nestro Alvarez serving up the sounds on a limited 7" packed with Latin funk. 'Tighten Up' actually couldn't be any tighter. The drums prickle as they race along with breezy sung-spoken vocals up top and big horn work that will liven up any party. On the reverse is a more distinctly samba-styled tune with rich bossa rhythms, plenty of golden percussion and expressive horn work lighting up the grooves. It might be cold outside these days, but it will be warm inside with this one playing.

Review: Following up their first edition of the comp, Original Gravity Records here offer up the second instalment of the Latin Fever series, charting the talents of many underappreciated Cuban artists - or at least, so it seems. In reality, the artists 'Luchito' and 'Nestor Alvarez' don't exist; they're deft fabrications of personality, envisaged by OG label boss Neil Anderson, who aims for a pitch-perfect emulation of Cuban salsa music and fusion. In gathering every instrument, musician and lo-fi aspect of production, it's a feat he impressively achieves: Luchito's two tracks are both move-on-up Latin heaters (listen closely, and you'll realise they're perfectly on-grid for club play). The Alvarez tunes are no less energetic, although the B-side closer 'El Relojero' is a particularly cool slower jam, with blue noted Hammond organs and trumpets nailing a rumbling rumba.
