Nuances De Nuit Vol 6
Cat: NUIT 006. Rel: 19 Apr 21

Minimal/Tech House
James Andrew - "Reality Call" (7:16)
Nathan Pinder - "Stutter" (6:56)
The Trip - "Big Trouble" (5:50)
Tip Top - "Control Alt Defeat" (6:39)
Review: Like its five predecessors, the sixth volume in the ongoing Nuances de Nuit series gathers together club-focused cuts from a quartet of producers, all of which could be considered rising stars of the underground tech-house scene. Sometime Subsequent contributor James Andrew kicks off proceedings with 'Reality Call', a bumping, elasticated bounce through spacey and swinging tech-house territory, before Nathan Pinder peppers a driving groove with deep space sounds and mid '90s US garage chords on 'Stutter'. Over on the reverse, The Trip offers up a tough, driving and melodic workout ('Big Trouble'), while Tip Top steals the show via the bleeping dub house hypnotism of 'Control Alt Defeat', where swelling pads, deep sub-bass and delay-laden electronics catch the ear.

DJ Steaw - "Vertigo" (6:01)
Armless Kid - "Untitled" (5:49)
T Jacques - "Context" (5:51)
E Wan - "Twice" (6:44)
Review: New label Nuances de Nuit kick off in fine style with a various artists 12" that draws on some emergent names to lay out a vision of cross-style dance music that favours the deeper end of the pool. Things get going with an organ-rich house bumper from DJ Steaw that pumps in all the right places, before Armless Kid switches things up with an untitled slice of dynamic, richly layered electro. T. Jacques thumps out a crafty, swinging cut with techy inclinations and oodles of groove, and E. Wan takes things in a more linear, deep techno direction laden with gorgeous synth work and plenty of artful effects processing.

DJ Tjizza - "Nuki Nuki" (5:22)
Jhobei - "Whimpering Willow" (7:29)
Jhobei - "Trifector Factor" (6:07)
DJ Tjizza - "Crate Investigate" (6:11)
Review: Nuances De Nuit's self-titled and ongoing EP series reaches number 11 with Mood Waves and LMML co-founder, DJ TJizza and Bizarre Traxx and Felon5's Jhobei. It's another punchy house offering with deep and dynamic drums on 'Nuki Nuki' setting a quick and compelling tempo before Jhobei offers the more bouncy and characterful house stomp of 'Whimpering Willow.' He then kicks off the flip with 'Trifector Factor' which marries dreamy ambient pads with 90s electronic house and cosmic motifs. DJ Tjizza's 'Crate Investigate' wraps up with a flashy synth sequence and tightly coil bass rumbles for maxim impact.

Liquid Earth - "X-Form" (6:54)
Huerta - "Legwork" (5:19)
DJOKO - "Copyrighted" (5:55)
T Jacques - "Voyetra" (6:18)
Review: The latest collection of wayward floor heaters from Nuances De Nuit takes us once more into a colourful headspace where the possibilities are wide open to make house music with personality. Californian shining star Liquid Earth is up first, although he's better known as Urulu. 'X-Form' is a bubbling metropolis of futuristic synth squiggles with starry-eyed wonder in its heart and vintage techno smarts up top. Huerta follows up that sterling start with the enchanting electro incantations of 'Legwork', which build wonderfully on the sound laid out on his recent debut album for Voyage Recordings. On the flip, DJOKO brings a smart shuffle and some shimmering synth work to the forefront for a seriously smart twist on the tech house template, while T. Jacques opts for space age machine funk with a splash of boogie poured in for good measure.

Nuances De Nuit Vol 9
Cat: NUIT 009. Rel: 04 May 22

Minimal/Tech House
Man/Ipulate - "Why Don't You Move" (6:31)
Yamen & EDA - "Spectraculaire" (6:04)
Midge Thompson - "BK" (7:02)
Cosmic JD - "Modal Injury" (5:08)
Review: The Nuances De Nuit series has been steady truckin' in the deep and tech house department since 2019. The label made its first move beyond various artist 12"s last time with a drop from T. Jacques, but now they're back to their showcase standard with this plentiful spread. Man / Ipulate leads in with the sultry, organ-led early 90s house stylings of 'Why Don't You Move', which sets up Yamen & EDA perfectly for the similarly styled, slightly ravier 'Spectraculaire'. Don't overlook the woozy magic of Cosmic JD's 'Modal Injury', which might well be the best joint on this EP of classy vibe tweakers

Nuances De Nuit Vol 5

Deep House
Mehlor & Le Louche - "Chromium" (5:45)
Thyone Girls - "More Pumpin'" (Ode To Joy instrumental) (5:49)
Local Dub - "Moon Dog" (6:13)
Karaba - "Hors Piste" (5:20)
Review: Another four track various artist EP from London imprint Nuances de Nuit, and their slogan 'Pour Les Danseurs' (for the dancers) could not be more apt. On Nuances de Nuit Vol. 5, the hypnotic, breakbeat-driven experience of 'Chromium' by Mehlor with Maxime Boekel (aka Le Louche) is reminiscent of some Rominimal sounds, while the on the flip the rolling, funky and ethereal tech house of Local Dub's 'Moon Dog' calls to mind iO (Mulen) and is an impressive debut from the You&Me affiliates. This is closed out by the swing-fuelled euphoria from Karab (Tessellate) on 'Hors Piste' that's full of classic house motifs.

Politics Of Dancing - "When The Morning Comes" (6:29)
Akyra - "Rizla" (7:36)
Karaba - "Floating Mind" (5:46)
Cosmic JD/Zenta - "Spencer Landoff" (6:09)
Review: The second volume of Nuances De Nuit brings together another choice cast of producers operating in the contemporary deep house scene. Politics Of Dancing are always to be trusted to kick a record off in style, and they do so with aplomb here on the heady melodic rush of "When The Morning Comes" before Akyra takes things in a crafty, playful and heftily swinging direction on "Rizla". Karaba's "Floating Mind" hovers in a psychedelic space shaped out by expressive synth shapes and anchored by a rubbery bassline and stout house beat. Cosmic JD and Zenta complete the record with "Spencer Landoff", another cheeky diversion into the alternate dimension of the late night / early morning scene.

Cheat Codes (6:35)
Cheat Codes (Youandewan remix) (6:18)
Fizzy Fanta (6:34)
Javi's Revenge (6:03)
Review: T. Jacques has been on a roll since hitting the scene in 2019 with the Velocity EP on House Puff. After a sterling run of VA releases on his Nuances De Nuit label, it's time for the bossman to step out front with a solo EP proper, bringing that limber, tranced-up house style you know you can't resist. As if 'Cheat Codes' wasn't already a sublime, psychedelic delight, Youandewan takes it up a notch with a remix which will get your skin wriggling in all kinds of wonderful ways. 'Fizzy Fanta' on the flip is no slouch in the feel-good department either, while 'Javi's Revenge' rounds things off with a playful, rolling breakbeat number for the video game generation.

Nuances De Nuit Vol 3 (Metropolitan Acid mix)
Cat: NUIT 003. Rel: 03 Dec 20

Minimal/Tech House
Kolter - "Don't Kill My Groove" (5:25)
T Jacques - "Control" (6:12)
Metro - "Here For The Love" (Metropolitan Acid mix) (8:20)
Vitess - "133cc" (6:20)
Review: Nuances De Nuit Vol 3 is another club ready but stylish EP of all fused house, minimal and techno sounds. Kolter immediately makes you move with 'Don't Kill My Groove', a perfectly fluid and slippery rhythm with warm chord smears and crisp perc. T Jacques then ups the ante with an old school tinged and punchy tech cut, 'Control,' that is awash with sci-fi pads. The Metropolitan Acid mix of 'Here For The Love' is a full flavour jam with diving bass and euphoric keys up top. Vitess closes down with '133cc', a bustling track full of rave energy, knotted synths and big stabs that ride on dusty breaks.

Can You Feel It (6:34)
First Filter (5:20)
Cloud Beats (5:09)
A New Leaf (6:01)
Review: Nuances De Nuit hits the mini-milestone of release number 10 here and does it in a standout fashion. Velvet Velour is behind the music and the opener 'Can You Feel It' is a superbly colourful house cut with futuristic neon lines and serene grooves. 'First Filter' keeps up the freshness with more vivid synth colours, balmy cosmic chords and silky drum programming and 'Cloud Beats' then gets more off-grid with its drums. This most delicious and vibrant EP closes with another cosmic surfer in 'A New Leaf.' Lovely stuff.
