Adolfo Echeverria Y Su Orquesta - "Sabroso Bacalao" (4:24)
Fruko Y Sus Tesos - "Mi Verdadero Son" (3:33)
Review: Gold standard funk fanatics Mukatsuku again look to Latin American for their latest volume in their ongoing Colombian Latin Funk & Salsa Gems series. Both of the cuts here have been carefully picked from Disco Fuentes back catalogue with Adolfo Echeverria Y Su Orquesta's 'Sabroso Bacalao' first up. The pianos are killer from the off, with shuffling percussion and nimble drum work all finished with fiery vocals. Fruko Y Sus Tesos's 'Mi Verdadero Son' is on the reverse and has more infectious vocals and wild brass stabs that make you want to flail your every limb around way above your head. Pure heat as ever here and hand-numbered to just 500 copies. Strictly no repress. As played by DJ Koco..Gilles Peterson..The Allergies.. Dom Servini... Skeme Richards..Bobbito..

On flipside and taken from the New Genius of The Blues album from 1967 and the first time ever on a 45 is Billy's killer rendition of 'Got My Mojo Working (But It Just Won't Work On You)' featuring Mr Hawks on vocals and organ and Joseph Jones on guitar. Biosis Now - "Independent Bahamas" (Nik's Exclusive Mukatsuku edit) (3:30)
Afro Train - "Tumba Safari" (Nik's Exclusive Mukatsuku re-edit) (3:28)
Review: This tasty 7" from the reliable Mukatsuku label sees 2 killer funk treats for the dancefloor. On the A-side there's a handy and exclusive re-edit of Bahamian combo Biosis Now's ludicrously rare "Independent Bahamas", a righteous call for self-governance backed with a wonderfully fuzzy and full-throttle tropical funk groove. A copy recently for $700 on ebay for the very first time of the original 45. On the flipside we find "Tumba Safari" taken from the recent Oriki compilation, a suitably heavy chunk of Ivory Coast afro-funk from long forgotten outfit Afro Train. Weston's version naturally emphasizes the drum breaks, heavy horns and razor-sharp guitars, in the process tightening it up for contemporary club play.As played by Hunee,Red Greg ,DJ Logic and Nicola Conte

Desert Wind
Review: Formed in 1974 with bassist/vocalist Rick Cua, drummer Tommy Rozzano, keyboardist Larry Arlotta, and lead singer/percussionist Ricky Chisholm. Their name is an acronym for the founding member's last names. After five years on the live circuit, Crac's troupe of musicians created their one and only record and self-released it in 1980. Super smooth in its delivery, broad in its style and detailed with rich harmonies, soothing instrumentation and a yacht-meets-rare-groove sense of calm and warmth, it's been a cult release ever since fetching triple figures on auction sites... until now. Sitting somewhere between the classic sounds of the Doobie Brothers and the more contemporary sun-kissed charm of Paqua, there's a timelessness to this that will last another 40 years and beyond.

Move On Up (3:48)
Give Me Your Love (3:32)
Review: By now, you should know Devon Russell's sought-after 1984 cover of Curtis Mayfield classic "Move On Up", a incredible, post-disco era reggae-soul revision that just oozes sun-splashed positivity. It's virtually impossible to pick up the original 45 so this dinked reissue from Mukatsuku Records is most welcome and has been lovingly remastered. The seven-inch is also notable for including another overlooked gem from Russell's even lesser-known 1993 album of Mayfield covers, "Darker Than Blue". His rendition of "Give Me Your Love" here presented for the very first time in a 45 format is blissfully glassy-eyed, colourful and hazy, giving the Mayfield classic a decidedly Balearic reggae feel via head-nodding grooves, fluid synthesizer lines and jazzy guitar solos. In a word: brilliant.Supported so far by DJ Koco & DJ Muro from Japan and Craig Charles BBC 6 Music, The Allergies,Mr Thing, Andy Smith & Boca 45 from the uk....

Move On Up (3:53)
Give Me Your Love (3:32)
Review: If you've not already picked up a copy of Mutaksuku Records' superb reissue of two of reggae musician Devon Russell's greatest Curtis Mayfield covers, we'd suggest grabbing one of these Juno exclusive white vinyl versions, which also happens to ship with a tasty wooden "45" adaptor. You may already know Russell's incredible '84 version of 'Move on Up', which re-imagines it as a languid, post-disco reggae-soul anthem that just oozes sun-soaked positivity. On this seven-inch, it comes backed by something equally as essential: the artist's lesser-known 1993 take on 'Give Me Your Love', which turns the much-loved song into a colourful, synth-laden trip through Balearic reggae territory. In a word: essential.

Dimenzio - "Bamba"
Marius Cultier - "Diamant"
Review: Two Gilles Peterson classics on one 7 inch !! As per usual, the unstoppable Mukatsuku delivers the undeliverable, and somehow the label boss Nik Weston has managed to license a pair of sought after tunes to find on the second-hand market. It's the second instalment of the Club Jazz series with this 45 a Hungary vs France sound clash.Hungary easily wins this one thanks to the sublime rhythm that is "Bamba" by Dimenzio, an inimitable jazz-dance leviathan that manages to mash-up all the right elements of jazz together with something a little weirder and electronic - a truly supreme piece of music that is recommended to ANYONE. Marius Culter's "Diamant" is a high calibre jazz funk missile, and works beautifully as a stand-alone, but its somewhat swamped by the sheer quality of its counterpart. Recommended. As played by Dean Rudland, Mr Thing, Ashely Beedle, Faze Action,Red Greg,Scrimshire,Frank Booker,Nancy Noise and Pete from On The Corner Records etc

Ebo Taylor & Uhuru Yenzu - "What Is Life?" (4:40)
Pat Thomas - "Gyae Su" (Mpaebo LP version) (5:02)
Review: Mukatsuku presents the second volume of killer Ghanaian highlife/afrofunk monsters this time focusing on two artists legendary in the genre. First up first time on a 45 from 1980 is '' What Is Life '' from the Ebo Taylor & Uhuru Yenzu album ''Conflict Nkru! ''. Amazing brass, flute and afrocentric rhythms lay the path for the track once heard never forgotten. On the flip first time ever on a 45 Pat Thomas who features on volume 1 of the series comes correct with possibly the best version (and there are a few ) of ''Gyae Su'' . With its jangly african guitar licks and infectious chorus lines the feel good factor is set to maximum. Another dope afro burner on Mukatsuku and sure to sell out fast. 500 hand numbered copies and no repress. As supported by DJ Koco from Japan and Jonathon Moore (Coldcut )

Eko - "M'Ongele M'Am"
Georges Ouedraogo - "Deni"
Review: Mukatsuku's ongoing "Afro Series" continues with a fine limited edition 45 containing two funk-fuelled floor-fillers. In fact, you'll struggle to find a more celebratory and life-affirming workout than Eko's "M'Ongele M'Am" licensed from Nubiphone & Africa Seven, a Makossa-fired Afro-disco gem rich in punchy horns, driving Afro-boogie bass, lilting synthesizer lines, Mariachi style trumpet solos and the kind of chant-along vocals that should put a smile on the face of even the most miserable of dancers. Over on side B, Georges Ouedraogo's "Deni" is an essential Clavinet-happy killer chunk of Afro-funk/Afro-Disco fusion from Burkina Faso. Review: Mukatsuku presents a rare gem from the vaults of African music history: Francis The Great's Look Up In The Sky, a sublime slice of Afro-funk from 1977. This instrumental re-edit by Nik Weston shows off the irresistible groove, the pounding bass, and the majestic guitar of this cult classic. Look Up In The Sky (Nik's Mukatsuku official instrumental Re edit) (7:24)
Review: Mukatsuku's next lovingly assembled offering is a 12" that has a logo laser etching on the b-side. On the A-side is a raw slice of fantastic Afro-funk by Francis The Great. It originally appeared on his 1977 Ravissante Baby album and was reissued in 2015 but now comes on nice heavy wax. It is served up as an instrumental re-edit and is powered by heavy bass from Vicky Edimo and majestic lead guitar from Toto Guillaume who work up a seven-minute-plus trip with expressive horns. The groove never quits and keeps on pulling you in as the arrangement evolves and a steamy mood builds. Superb.

Take It Personally (feat Desmond Foster) (1:30)
Take It Personally (Exclusive unreleased instrumental) (1:30)
Review: Mukatsuku's latest must-have release offers another opportunity to own early Freddie Cruger AKA Red Astaire favourite "Take It Personally". The wonderfully dusty, smoky and life-affirming hip-hop-soul cut first appeared as a Swedish only CD single in 2001, before later being included on the Stockholm stalwart's 2006 debut album "Soul Search". This time round, the inspired original - all head-nodding beats, sumptuous strings and sugary-sweet vocals from guest Desmond Foster - comes accompanied by a previously unreleased instrumental take. This vocal-free version is superb, offering listeners a chance to wallow in the quality of the Swedish veteran's bumpin' beats and intoxicating, head-in-the-clouds production. In the record box of Danny Krivit,DJ Spinna, Kid Koala and more! Only 300 hand-numbered copies and strictly no repress. Fruko Y Sus Tesos - "A La Memoria Del Muerto" (4:25)
Combo De Los Galleros - "Soledad" (2:46)
Review: For this 7" single, label boss Nik Weston took a deep dive into the vast back catalogue of Discos Fuentes, Columbia's oldest record label (it was founded in 1934, fact fans). On the A-side you'll find "A La Memoria Del Muerto" by long serving salsa outfit Fruko Y Suis Tesos, a typically jaunty, dusty and celebratory workout that was originally released on a now hard-to-find 7" single sometime in the early 1970s. Over on the B-side, Weston takes us on a trip to the early days of Cumbia via El Combo Los Galleros's brilliant 1963 album cut "Soledad", which still sounds heavy, punchy and intoxicating 44 years after it was recorded, and has been a staple in the bags of top selectors such as Hunee, Red Greg, Kai Alce, Dom Servini & Craig Charles from BBC 6!

Somos Latinos
Review: "Wow. Sounds like '74 downtown NY Fania Records... Absolutely brilliant." Not our words, but the words of one Gilles Peterson, but we know what he means. Latin supergroup Grupo Magnetico formed from backgrounds in funk, hip-hop & soul, united by a love of Eddie Palmieri, Tito Puente, Ray Barretto, Fania and classic New York salsa. They have worked with legendary musicians from Cuba, Venezuela and America and led by Toby "El Leon" Shippey, developed their own set and sound. These two tracks were lifted from the Athens Of The North album Positvo from 2018 and feature 'Vulcano V El Gato' (Medley) with 'Somos Latinos' on the B-side. Latin party music in all its clatteringly percussive, bustling glory - no wonder it's being supported by DJ Koco, Patrick Forge, DJ Amir, Mr Thing, Dom Servini, Coco Maria, Cosmo Sofi, Rainer Truby, Miche as well as Peterson. Review: Juno exclusive with free additional wooden 45 adapter. This year, a number of labels - most notably Dynamite Cuts - have been digging in to the seemingly bottomless archives of much-sampled American-Trinidadian artist and producer George Semper, a man many consider to be "the Godfather of Bay Area soul". Here Mukatsuku gets in on the act by offering up a fresh pressing of Semper-produced funk band In One Piece's rare, self-titled debut the first time ever on a 45. The vocal version on side A is superb, and features Cindy Jones singing attractively over a bustling, loose-limbed, B-Boy friendly rhythm track and sweaty Hammond B3 solos from jazz organist Rodney Franklin. The latter's mazy, jazzy keys-work naturally comes to the fore on the flipside instrumental, which has never before been heard let alone released until now. Repartamos El Funky
Review: Mukatsuku struck gold again on this latest first time on a "45" issue. It boasts a couple of lesser-known jazz-funk fusion jams which originally featured on Argentine musician Jorge Navarro's 1977 album "Navarro Con Polenta", an LP that has never been issued outside of South America. A-side "Funk Yourself" is a bustling, high-octane jazz-funk Hammond licks and spiralling horns jumping above a Blaxploitation style backing track. "Repartamos El Funky" is a more laid back but no less musically intricate affair, with a variety of high-grade electric piano and guitar solos riding seemingly endless jazz style drum solos and rubbery bass. Give The Horns Some
Review: Mukatsuku label labels latest release showcases some typically funky workouts from Black Milk Music regular LTF AKA Light The Fuse, a Siberia-based beat-maker known for the deepness of his samples and the dopeness of his productions. Both these tracks lifted from Rucksack Records Monolith long player and here features on A-side 'King of Funk' is a bombastic tribute to James Brown that peppers a weighty, bass-heavy boom-bap beat with sharp, effects-laden horns and razor-sharp guitar licks. It sounds a little like a long lost late 80s NYC hip-hop club instrumental, which is no bad thing. B-side 'Give Them Some Horns' is deeper, hazier and jazzier, with dusty sax and trumpet samples riding layered percussion and a typically head-nodding beat. Review: Repress of the sought after Mukatsuku Records 12 containing two remastered tracks of Atlanta musician Ojeda Penn presented here according to Ojeda officially for the very first time. The A side kicks off with the extended holy grail instrumental version of 'Brotherson' taken from the Happiness album. There were two versions of the album Happiness in 1980 on the IFE independent label. They looked almost identical but the first version contained the now rarer elongated 9 & half minute jazz fused instrumental version of 'Brotherson' and then a few months later Penn recut the same album but with a much shorter version of the main track but this time adding strings and vocals assisted by Tommy Stewart from 'Bump N Hustle Music' fame. Review: Mukatsuku has got another little treasure on its hands here with a tune from MBE and UK Soul legend Omar. It dates back to 2004 and has never been on 7" before having become something of a classic after original release on 12". Dons like Gilles Peterson and IG Culture were early supporters of the driving, peak time broken beat sound and the tune was often a highpoint of Omar's live sets. It has never been released as an instrumental either - until now. Both tunes now together on one 45 make for an essential cop for soul fans and, as always, there is strictly no repress on this one so move fast.

Turn It Up! (feat Tyra Hammond) (4:04)
Turn It Up! (Exclusive unreleased instrumental) (4:04)
Review: London funk outfit Mukatsuku are among our prime go-tos whenever we're in need of anything with a Latin edge. 'Turn It Up!' is the latest from one of the most eminent bands in their roster Opensouls: the track is a monster of a downtempo funker that leans largely into its instrumental, but features a sprinkling of euphoric vocal from the band's singing mainstay Tyra Hammond. Packed to the brim with crashing fills, bright brasses and lollicking bass licks, this is a prime set-opener and summer soundtracker.

Two dance floor destroyers are laid bare to slay the toughest of audiences.Up first Pearl Dowdell who's surname on earlier Saadia issues was misspelt as Dowell with a killer female funk gem saving you hundreds of pounds for an original...

Peter Yamson - "Everybody Dance" (3:51)
Tala Am - "Get Up Tchamassi" (3:11)
Review: Mukatsuku's long running "Afro Funk & Disco Gems" series has always been a reliable source of obscure, high-quality dancefloor material from the African continent. This tenth edition is another must-have - on the A-side you'll find the synth-laden, boogie-era sunshine of "Everybody Dance", one of the undisputed highlights of Peter Yamson's in-demand (and notably hard to find) "Son Of Africa" LP. With wonderful vocals, glistening guitars, lolloping drum machine beats and some stellar synth work, the track ticks all the right boxes. Over on the flip there's a chance to own Cameroon legend Tala Andre Marie's 1981 classic "Get Up Tchamassi", whose snaking sax lines, elastic slap bass and dreamy chords are nothing less than sensational. As played by The Allergies, DJ Koco, Joe Claussell,Smoov,Kalita, Faze Action,DJ Moar etc

The Poets Of Rhythm - "The Plan"
Wallace Brothers - "What Cha Feel Is What Cha Get"
Review: Originally out on the Practice What You Preach album from 1993, "The Plan" by German funkateers Poets of Rhythm has never been pressed up as a single, but has always remained much sought-after by the funk heads, and why wouldn't it be? It's got it all: a James Brown kind of sleaziness backed by a jump-up groove and a sliding set of organs. Wallace Brothers feature on the flip, with the rare funk blazer by the name of "What Cha Feel Is What Cha Get", a rare floor-dominator now available for your turntable. Records are your friends, Mukatsuku leads the way! As played by Mr Thing,Snowboy,Dean Rudland,Smoov etc

Tecumsay Roberts - "It Makes Me Dance & Sing" (5:44)
Commy Bassey - "We Want Togetherness" (4:37)
Review: Triassic Tusk's "Screamers, Bangers & Cosmic Synths" series of crate digging comps has seen the Scottish crew showcase some seriously hot, little-known music. Mukatsuku have joined forces with the imprint to give a 12" release to two potent Afro-disco smashers that recently featured on volume two of the ongoing compilation series ,now remastered and sounding better than ever. On side A you'll find Liberian artist Tecumsay Roberts' bouncy 1979 Afro-soul/Afro-boogie number "It Makes Me Dance & Sing", where spacey Moog solos rice above a funk-influenced dancefloor groove. On the flip, the fun continues via Commy Bassey's Clav-happy, Nigerian sounding Afro-boogie roller "We Want Togetherness", a positive plea for unity that's as relevant now as it was way back in 1980.Juno copies come in an exclusive branded card sleeve with an additional obi strip not available at other retailers .As played/charted by Red Greg,Joe Claussell,Marcel Vogel, Craig Charles,Faze Action,Kalita,Cedric Woo,JKriv,Prins Thomas,Floating Points and Dom Servini so far.

The Boys In The Band - "Pain" (First Time On vinyl)
Little Fint - "Pain"
Review: Upfront to Juno ! New Mukatsuku 45 from America Mid West with two versions of ''Pain'' with The Boys In The Band version never seeing a commercial vinyl release and in our opinion far superior ! Little Flint's wobby intro original version sells upwards of 400 GBP when you can find a clean copy. Hand-numbered to 500 units one off limited pressing.Strictly no repress

Wayne Perry & Randy Mcnutt decided to record a version of Pain in a power Soul Rock mode which were all the range in Cincinnati, Ohio at the time of the recording around 1973.The Boys In The Band version features Wayne singing solo but was never released. What was released was the Little Flint version (a name that Wayne had chosen as an alto ego guise ) and assisted with that version by an uncredited vocalist from Alaska singing live singing on top of the same rhythm track. Other band members included Roger 'Jellyroll' Troy on bass,Jerry Love on drums,Gary Boston on guitar,Craig Shenafield & Terry Burnside on brass (all five had played on sessions/backed James Brown at certain points in their careers) plus the young B-3 Organist Terry Hoskins who was just 17 at the time.DJ support from The Allergies so far..

Get Lucky
Louie Louie
Review: Although well known on the funk circuit for their incendiary live performances, the Soul Grenades have yet to translate their hard-hitting, horn-heavy sound to wax. It's for this reason that "A Blast Of Funk!", their debut single, has caused such a commotion. It boasts fresh recordings of two of the most popular cover versions in their armoury. The pick of the pair is undoubtedly their riotous rendition of "Get Lucky", which is re-imagined as a tasty funk-soul work out smothered in headline-grabbing, New Orleans style brass. That said, their version of "Louie Louie" is rather good, too, especially the addition of Meters style Hammond organ licks. As played by Craig Charles on BBC 6,The Allergies, Snowboy, Smoov,Boca 45 , Voodoo Cuts, Aldo Vanucci, Daytoner,Dom Servini, Jack & Wayne Hemingway. Don't sleep!

Review: Upront to juno ! In 2009, a group of seasoned funk and soul session musicians joined forces to record a rousing rhythm & blues-meets-funk cover version of Duffy's 2007 single "Mercy". Subsequently released on both Tri Sound and Acid Jazz, the track has become a must-have for soul DJs ever since.Sounding as though it might have been recorded in the late 60's it has a powerful funk driving backbeat ,thumping bass, soaring male soul vocal and screaming swirling hammond organ. Tommy Stewart - "Bump & Hustle Music"
Bridge - "Stella"
Review: It seems strange that Tommy Stewart's seminal rare groove funk anthem 'Bump And Hustle Music' has never had a 45 release, but Mukatsuku has set out to address this issue with Volume 2 of their 'First Time On A 45 Classics' series. On the flipside we find Bridge's sublime version of 'Stella' via the originally unreleased album 'Crying For Love' - recorded in Boulder, Colorado in 1981. First Experience reissued that album in 1999 but this is the first time 'Stella', written by Paul Tillman Smith has been made available as a 45. Courtial - "Losing You" (with Errol Knowles) (3:05)
Sounds Of The City Experience - "Getting Down" (4:06)
Review: Weston's curatorial crusade continues as he unearths more criminally overlooked/under-pressed rarities from the golden ages; "Losing You" comes from Courtial and Errol Knowles outstanding 1976 soul jazz album. The most straight up soul joint from the album, it's an instant sweat-fest with real guts behind both the vocals and instrumentation. Flip for the jazz funk whirlwind that is "Getting Down". Taken from their eponymous, once-super rare ($1500 per copy rare) album (also released in 76), it's an instrumental hurricane led by strings, horns and bombastically swung drums. Powerful. Come To Me (remastered) (4:39)
LA Walk (Nik Weston extended re-edit) (6:10)
Review: It would be fair to say that Estiban Lindsay's one and only album, 1980's L.A Walk, is something of a sought-after rarity. Considered by many disco/boogie diggers to be a must-have, original copies of the Canadian classic currently change hands for three-figure sums online. Ever the dusty-fingered digger, Nik Weston has managed to license two tracks from the album after hearing global trotting DJ Hunee championing the main track in his sets in 2015 , and provides his own extended dancefloor re-edits. Both are subtly done, with Weston teasing out Lindsay's grooves and making more of his deliciously soulful versions, all without adding needless house drums or contemporary production tricks. The EP also contains the original version of the warm, disco-boogie gem "Come To Me". As played by Craig Charles (BBC 6 Music), Hunee, Eddie C, Tom Noble, Admin, Mike Shaw, Volcov, Frank Booker, Red Greg, Ashley Beedle, Joey Negro, Dom Servini, Miles Eastwick, Faze Action and many more...

Review: Gems? Diamonds, more like. Sparkling funky diamonds that shine from every guitar, horn, bass and deep belly-driven chants. First up is a 1976 number from Wganda Kenya who actually come from Colombia. You'd never tell; with vast harmonies and a sonic span that's as wide as the Serengeti plains, its heart beats to a strict Kenyan rhythm. M'Bamina add a French African touch to the B on a specially edited version of "Atide O Sika" by label boss Nik Weston under his MUKAT edit guise.
