Review: Moto Music round off a cracking year with this essential collection of deep diving techno finery from Bigeneric, one of Marco Repetto's many long-lasting aliases. The Swiss polymath is a dab hand at wringing illustrious machine soul out of his machines, whether it be crafty, head-snagging rhythms or plush and expressive threads of synth work, and on this double pack you get an abundance of both. With one foot firmly in the heritage of Detroit and the other gazing into the stellar orbit of the finest European techno dreamers, this is elegant, thoughtful electronic music of the highest order.

Review: Dan Piu's long-running Moto Music welcomes a new project into the mix in the shape of Parallaks, which is formed by Maltese producers Owen Jay and Ed Blank. It's a new direction, certainly for Jay, who shirks his sleeker tech house fare for some rugged experimentation on the outer limits of hardware techno, reportedly fuelled by a modular-focused approach. The results are fantastic, placing the emphasis on intriguing synth shapes and machine-led progression that veers from the gritty beatdown "Palo Verde" to the beautiful, expressive experimentation of "Browns Ferry." It's a consistently interesting and brilliantly executed experiment from two gifted producers.

Zuwood (12")
Cat: MOTO 012. Rel: 18 Jul 17
  1. Cow (4:44)
  2. Muffin (6:23)
  3. Cool (4:38)
  4. Cheese (5:39)
  5. Mountain (5:57)
Review: Robert Crash's new TC White alias offers an ulterior shade of raw here, made possible by Swiss newbie label Moto. This is proper bangin' material from start to finish, kicked off with the liquid-like patterns of "Cow", a grungy house banger masterminded by heavy folds of mutant bass and crusty drums; "Muffin" splits the tempo down to a magnificently awkward broken beat with a deep, off-kilter sensibility. On the flip, "Cool" travels under a much murkier, more swamped sort of disguise, while "Cheese" is barely able to contain its inebriated groove from melting apart amid distorted tape hiss and loose instrumentation, which leaves "Mountain" to provide a little disco comfort to this mighty fine, utterly loopy EP of true-school house music.
