Review: The mysterious House Bros originally recorded this song in Hollywood in 1979, cut it to acetate and then seemingly forgot all about it. That sole acetate was destined for obsolescence until it was discovered some 40 years later by a devoted Northern Soul DJ. Not content with just driving dance-floors wild with his discovery, he asked Al Kent to "do something" with it. And boy did he do something! By adding new drums, Rhodes piano and strings, rearranging and extending the song from 4 minute to over 9, and adding the obligatory disco break, Al's created a modern but authentic disco epic that could just as easily have been recorded and mixed in a New York studio in 1976.

Taking the vocal from The Four Tops' 'Ask The Lonely' and some licks from 'It Seems To Hang On' by Ashford & Simpson, Kent has cooked up something achingly beautiful, for when you want the dancefloor to get all misty eyed. Review: It's been a hot minute since Al Kent dropped some of his sweet and soulful dancefloor instinct on us, but he's back in style on his reanimated Million Dollar Disco label. "Pick Me Up (Say Goodbye)" takes Gladys Knight & The Pips' tender "Neither One Of Us (Wants To Say Goodbye)" and gives it a supremely pitched dancefloor injection. Upping the tempo and rolling out an organic disco beat, Knight's vocal gets a whole new backdrop without losing the emotional heft of the track. Al Kent comes correct with three subtle disco touch ups here. "J'adore" has been in Al Kent's record box all summer and the MDD don finally shares the goods. The brilliance of "Don't Stop" is in the simplicity a€ a vocal loop plays out over a building crescendo of strings and horns and then starts all over again, while "Down To Me" plays out like the epitome of one long relentlessly pleasing groove.

Review: Glaswegian disco digger Al Kent has come a long way in the last decade. When he first set up Million Dollar Disco 10 years ago, his specialism was filter-heavy disco-house. Now, though, he's a disco purist through and through - as, to be fair, he always was at heart - delivering high grade re-edits of super-obscure underground bombs. This three tracker offers more top-notch cut-and-paste action for the heads. There's no post-production trickery or extra kicks, just incessant disco grooves, lung-busting vocals, razor-sharp strings and life affirming horns. Basically, if you dig real disco, you need this. Lead cut "Feel It Baby", in particular, is a killer.

It's a glorious track that is driven by crashing hi-hats and expert string arrangements, the swift drop into a harmonious vocal refrain just one of the many breakdowns. On the flip the elder statesmen will instantly recognise the source of "I've Had Enough", a rather tasty low slung strut through heavy percussion.

Review: The second of this week's Million Dollar Disco EPs repeats the formula of previous waxual excursions from head honcho Al Kent: take impossibly hard to identify disco rarities and subject to a liberal dose of Walter Gibbons-style editing techniques. A simple yet very effective equation, you have to agree. Sliding across the A Side we have the fuzzy guitar-led brilliance of "The Get Down", a track punctuated by a relentless procession of shuffling snares. Pure instrumental disco heat! "The Strut" does just that on the B Side, some excellent melodies dribbling down the intricate syncopation and tight bass licks that propel the track beneath a swathe of vintage strings. "Heatwave" finishes the 12" in style with some heavy organ and synth funk outs chopped and looped to perfection over the chuggy beat.

Review: Al Kent returns with the third in an infrequent series of vinyl Million Dollar Disco EPs with the Lower East Side EP beginning in fine form with "I Can Feel It" which hogs the A Side. A relentlessly upbeat disco thumper that's filled with percussive delight, Al Kent extends the track out brilliantly before letting proceedings drop into the orchestral glisten of the source material. On the flip, Kent retains the pace for "Let's Do It" which is one long infectious instrumental groove formed of big hats, thumping snares and hugging bass licks. The haunting string led procession that is "Route Nine" rounds things off on a high note.

Review: More splice 'n' dice edit action from Glasgow's premier disco beard, with three more goodtime grooves on offer. Lead cut "Message To The People" brilliantly rearranges and fattens up Mass Production's much-loved disco-funk banger "Welcome To Our World Of Merry Music". It was obvious something of a labour of love, because it remains faithful to the original while giving it a serious rocket up the backside. Respect is due. On the B, "I Feel The Groove" is another stomper - this time with space synths - while "Keep On Doing" will satisfy DJs with a passion for slap-bass grooves and triumphant horns.
