Serve The Spirits
Serve The Spirits (coloured vinyl 12" in hand-stamped sleeve)
Cat: MFV 03. Rel: 07 Jun 17

Techno
Alleged Witches (7:11)
Far East (5:41)
Witches' Mark (6:01)
Pick Up Your Needle (Initation Rituals remix) (5:55)
Review: Through the jungle mists come Alleged Witches, who hail from Slovenia and are the latest signing to R&S sublabel Meda Fury. Voodoo drum workouts and distant native tongues echo through the ages just like on the eponymous opening track. "Far East" merges the organic and synthetic gracefully in entrancing fashion, while "Pick Up Your Needle" (Initiation Rituals remix) on the flip entrances the listener with its wonderfully hypnotic polyrhythms. Pressed into eerie, marbled, black vinyl and hand stamped with that Meda Fury seal of excellence, this is vinyl only magic forest tracks for DJs.

The Purple Ghost Dance
Nightosphere
D4NGR
Subliminal Seducer
Lumpy Space People
Review: After the successful foray into exotic, densely packed realms with Hazylujah, Meda Fury is at it once again with D Ribeiro at the controls. "The Purple Ghost Dance" is aptly titled, as a fractious concoction of electro funk synths and abstract swirls make for a positively amorphous kind of groove that the after-life remnants of Prince may well approve of. "Nightosphere" has its own mystical haze draped over it, albeit with a more pronounced 4/4 beat and bigger synth tones, while "D4NGR" works a choice funk sample into loose and shuffling disco formations fit for a Detroit house head. "Subliminal Seducer" gets all kinds of boogie wonderment raining down in a bugging bump of a beat, and "Lumpy Space People" ups the tempo with a snappy breakbeat approach that's no less delirious.

Fourth Stone Bass (6:03)
In Sex (7:00)
100% (6:15)
Review: To date Italian producer Massimiliano Vianello has split his Hazylujah output evenly between Amsterdam stronghold Delsin and Meda Fury, the R&S subsidiary dedicated to knackered house. After the excellent Knife Silhouette 12" for Delsin arrived back in June, Vianello evens up the score with 100% EP on Meda Fury. The result of some extensive "research in sound design and harmonics," these four tracks represent Vianello's most extreme productions to date, delving deep into the crawl space between house and techno with occasionally startling results. None more so than the exercise in pitch shifted tones and glistening textures that makes up the Actress-like title cut, which stands in stark contrast to the wonderfully messy techno of "Fourth Stone Bass". The closing title track "100%" also impresses and sounds like Rezzett played at the wrong speed.

How Can You Hide From What Never Goes Away?
On High In Translucent Tomorrows
Review: It's surprising to think that it was back in 2011 that Massimiliano Vianello first emerged on Delsin with his debut EP Too Many Ghosts, but now the Italian producer is finally following up on the promise of that first EP with another selection of psychedelically-tinged house and techno for Meda Fury. It's pleasing to note that his sound hasn't been tempered in the passing of time, with a rich tapestry of sounds feeding into his starry-eyed productions from exotic samples to distant synths, loping drum machines to mangled instruments. "Get Mezcla" represents the more direct offering with its sumptuous flute lines and rolling groove but even there you can find your mind wandering into a haze of swirling noise and cooing voices.

Review: Meda Fury, the London based offshoot of R&S Records, presents us with a second release by Japan's Takuya Matsumoto who has been producing since 200,1 mainly on Nigata-based Iero and more recently on Royal Oak with the Ekr's Galactic Dance 12". On the Assembly EP he presents us with five quality selections of deep house starting with the soulful deepness of "Be", its stunning piano solo supported by a smooth groove with just enough shuffle in the rhythm to make it work out. "On The March" is the kind of mysterious and subterranean deepness recalling the vibes of classic Moodymann, albeit on a more experimental tip. On the flip we have two short tracks "Rain Flower" with its sublime Caribbean vibe and the sexy "Trash Track" reminiscent of Geneva legends Quarion or Agnes.

Camouflaged Letter
NY NY
Requiem
Review: Having previously appeared largely on Lero and Cosmic Blue, Japan's Takuya Matsumoto is the latest artist to be snapped up by R&S new globally-minded Meda Fury imprint. It's a lush, starry-eyed kind of house music that Matsumoto delivers, from the sassy keys and uptempo strut of "Ram" to the energetic Detroit-isms of "Camouflaged Letter" with its neatly arranged polyrhythmic synth lines. "NY NY" is a more laid back affair as the beat simmers down to a delicate tick and live bass and piano play out in a smoky style perfect for lazy Sundays. "Requiem" too keeps the B side in a pleasant reverie, opting for more romantic ivory tinkling over a crisp minimal beat.

Jungle TV (6:46)

Yellow Eyes (5:04)
Flourite (feat Aem Rhythm Cascade) (4:58)
Sublife (0:50)
Review: Oleg Buyanov is Ol and appears for R&S sublabel Meda Fury with his second EP since 2014's Scape Border. The A side cuts are lo-fi deep house for fans of 2014-era Huerco S, Mall Grab or 1080p style stuff. We particularly enjoyed the stripped hypnotism of the second half of this release, such as on "Yellow Eyes" which has some trippy Perlon/Romanian minimal style sound design jittering above a simple kick and hi hat affair. "Flourite" is equally as reduced; afterhours mini-funk covered in the right amount of dust and a very paranoid groove indeed.

What Rosa Says (5:13)
Zachit Lubit (6:15)
On Fire (5:11)
Review: R&S sub label Meda Fury have unearthed some really inspirational producers who giving their take on the modern house sound such as Royota OPP, Hazylujah and Sad City. Now it's the turn of Alex Pletnev from Lithuania with the Dancer EP, which the label themselves describe as "unknown adaptation African and oriental vibes for a dance floor". On the A side, we have the title track; an Afro acid cut with some absolutely mesmerizing and trance inducing rhythms beneath its 303 acid squelch. On the flip, we've got the spiritual life music of "Zachit Lubit" the kind of positive affirmation you'd get on the dancefloor at Body & Soul NYC with Joe Clausell on the decks. Finally we've got the African boogie of "On Fire" sounding more like an edit of an obscure gem from wayback; this one was well funky!

Review: Rimbaudian aka DJ Seinfeld is back again on Meda Fury, with more lo-fi house sounds to truly bang the party! This will mark his third release in a year for the R&S sublabel, alongside releases on Ten Thousand Yen, Natural Sciences and E-Beamz: pretty credible really! Starting off the Houz Low EP is the title track: a hard hitting affair full of punchy, dusted down rhythms and evocative keys. Then prepare to get down to the retro rave of "Track 2". Pretty stomping this one was, with its ferocious breaks and classic rave stabs: where's the hoover? On the flip, the highlights were the unearthed speed garage anthem "Listen Up" and yet more neon lit retro '80's fare on "707020".
