Review: Envee is something of a soul, jazz and house lover who brings all those influences to his work. He's back on Local Talk here with a new single 'Gotta Work' featuring Nick Sincklair on vocals. The first take is a vibe-y backroom jam with sensational chord work and nice deep, leggy drums with a rich US tinge. The Trev remix is broken up into a nice jittery beat workout with the buttery smooth vocal left up top. The 2020 mix is a shuffling, soul-drenched pumper for parties who like their bets with plenty of heart and a closing Trev Dub offers a more expansive sound for bigger floors.

Review: Astonishingly, a decade has now passed since Timothee Milton's last significant single - a digital-only affair on Moodmusic called 'Back In Time'. This 12", featuring the mighty vocal talents of Dome Records soulstress Angela Johnson, is therefore long overdue. Milton's 'Main Mix' (B2) is a nostalgic, retro-futurist chunk of vocal house - think driving drums, incessant minor key melodies, early morning synth riffs, organ bass and a typically inspired lead vocal from Johnson. The accompanying remix package is unsurprisingly strong, too. On the A-side 'Underwater Mix', Hugo LX adds Johnson's wonderful vocal to a backing track rich in undulating acid bass, bouncy, Afro-house-influenced beats, King Britt chords and woozy synth sounds. Art of Tones version, meanwhile, is a looser and more organic-sounding affair that takes cues from disco and gospel house.

Review: DJ Neet & Gordon Brown Jr are Riddim Research Lab, who strike back with their second release which this time is on Mad Mats & Tooli's Local Talk. 'Breaking Dub' is a cover version of the classic Kyodai track 'Breaking', released on the label back in 2012. This version slows things down and creates a hypnotic vibe in a low slung fashion, complete with the UK-based music outsiders' penchant for deep roots and reggae influences, all heavily processed in an old-fashioned manner.

Review: Local Talk welcome back Shaka two years after the well received The Riverwalk EP. Once again this two tracker heads down a nice deep and funky path with plenty of soul soothing jazz-funk grooves nailed to a deep house beat. The drums sway, the chords glow and the compositions are brilliantly loose and fluid. Jazzy house does come along this deep and real very often so do not sleep on this one. If Roy Ayers had ever recorded house cuts for Strictyl Rhythm, this is maybe what they would have sounded like.

Review: Local Talk has quietly but assuredly become a vital voice in there underground. It has done so over the last 13 years and now makes that occasion by doing what it does best - serving up timeless club sounds that mix under many different subgenres. This is another feel-good offering from four of the label's talents or as the label puts it, "producers that we love and respect." There is funky bass and soulful vibes from the Soul Renegades opener, Wipe The Needle's 'Light Years Away' is a more serene cosmic journey and The James L'Estraunge Orchestra offer a broken beat and jazzed-up dancer in 'Broken Spells.' Nico Lahs brings some cuddly depths to his slow-mo house jam 'Happenstance.'

Review: Local Talk are proud to present a live recording by Soulphiction & Netzer from 2018, recorded live just a month before the official release of 'Bizzness' - the first of several releases the late great Michel Baumann and this Swedish label released together. On the first side, you have a serving of lo-slung late night mood music in the form of 'Bizzness' (live @ BIX), and over on the flip you're treated to more sensual vibes with the soul-inflected delight of 'Dileila Emergency Dub'. Real proper deep stuff for the heads.
